The album-sized (12″ x 12″) package features rare and unseen backstage and onstage photography of the band during the album tours of 1972 to 1975. 129 candid black-and-white photographs by Storm Thorgerson, Jill Furmanovsky, Aubrey Powell, Storm Thorgerson and Peter Christopherson document the soundchecks, the shows and the after shows. The second part explores in 65 colour images how the original prism motif by Hipgnosis and StormStudios evolved into an array of graphics and homages to the world’s great artists, some of which went on to grace further projects of the band. Co-founder of StormStudios, Peter Curzon, recalls the details of each brief and the development of the graphics over a 50-year period. At this stage, there is no indication of what the cover looks like, and as we get more information, including the cover, we will update this page. Roger Waters wows the Pittsburgh crowd on the tour’s first night!

Roger Waters This Is Not A Drill 2022 North America tour (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2020-tour-zone/index.php) took place last night (July 6th) at the Pittsburgh PPG Paints Arena. This followed what we hear was a dress rehearsal at Bryce Jordan Center, University Park, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 2nd. Last night saw an enthralled crowd in Pittsburgh taking in the music, in a diverse and interesting set list, the spectacle, and the occasion itself. First nights are always fun, with everyone being in the same boat in terms of no knowledge of what is going to happen and when. Initial reports are that the show was quite an experience, but as always, we value your first hand views on all the concerts – so if you went, please let us know your thoughts! The Pittsburgh show page (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2020-tour-zone/july-8th-ppg-paints-arena-pittsburgh-pa-usa.html) has the full set list if you want to check out what was played – what mix of older and newer songs was there? What was the ratio of old Pink Floyd stuff against Roger’s solo material? Any new songs? The answers can be found here (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2020-tour-zone/july-8th-ppg-paints-arena-pittsburgh-pa-usa.html), hidden from immediate view as we normally do, so for those who accidentally go on the page, who don’t want to see it, they don’t! We’ve also got some great pictures (already!) which we’re adding to the page; if you have any contributions – a review, brief comments, or pictures – we’d love to see them! Please drop us a line at the normal address: Matt@Brain-Damage.co.uk (mailto:matt@brain-damage.co.uk?subject=BD%20contribution).

In depth feature on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side in new Classic Rock Magazine

(number 303, cover date Summer 2022) of the magazine Classic Rock (https://www.magazinesdirect.com/az-single-issues/6936929/classic-rock-magazine-single-issue.thtml?). As you can see, issue 303’s cover stars are Pink Floyd: they bring you the story of the birth of The Dark Side Of The Moon. We hear (from someone who has an early, subscriber copy) that it is a nicely done article, with plenty of unusual pictures illustrating the twelve-page piece. Elsewhere in the magazine, they look at how Pete Townshend’s abandonment of a science-fiction rock opera led to The Who’s Who’s Next. Also how, after years of mud slinging, power grabs, law suits and general animosity, Journey somehow managed to make a new album. After more than a decade away, Porcupine Tree are back with a new album. Has their time finally come? Classic Rock finds out. There’s also all the normal features, including an extensive review section. You can order the magazine direct, worldwide, through this link (https://www.magazinesdirect.com/az-single-issues/6936929/classic-rock-magazine-single-issue.thtml?).

David Gilmour performing at the 2012 Douglas Adams 60th Birthday Party

11 March 2012 would have been the author Douglas Adams’ 60th Birthday. To celebrate this event, Douglas’s family and friends decided to hold a “virtual birthday party” in London, at the Hammersmith Apollo (formerly Odeon) which turned out to be a stunning, star-studded event with chat, comedy and music filling the evening. Our review of the evening can be found here (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/archive/david-gilmour-performs-at-the-douglas-adams-60th-birthday.html). The event was staged in aid of Save The Rhino International. For the musical part of the evening, there was quite the house band. Robbie McIntosh on guitar and vocals, Gary Brooker on keyboards and vocals, Jodi Linscott on percussion, Wix Wickens on keyboards, Margo Buchanan on vocals and guitar, backed by Dave Bronze on bass, and Paul Beavis on drums. Joining them later in the set was David Gilmour, who sang Wish You Were Here, which he played an acoustic guitar on, followed by Chuck Berry’s Too Much Monkey Business with the Black Strat fired up, which he also used on the finale of A Whiter Shade Of Pale. The show was filmed, but never released. However, one decade on, and to coincide with what would have been Douglas’s 70th birthday, permission has been granted to release that stunning finale, which you can see here:
