Germany’s Oliver Bierhoff tells Kai Havertz to join Real Madrid & predicts Timo Werner will be a success at Chelsea

Germany’s Oliver Bierhoff tells Kai Havertz to join Real Madrid

Oliver Bierhoff is the sporting director of the German national team.

Back in Euro 96, Bierhoff memorably came off the bench for Germany in the final against the Czech Republic, and he scored a match-winning double to win the showpiece.

On Thursday, Bierhoff has given an interview to Spanish paper Marca, and the topic of Kai Havertz came up.

This week it’s been reported that Kai Havertz has told Bayer Leverkusen he wants to leave this summer.

While Real Madrid have been named as a possible suitor, Chelsea appear to be in the driving seat. Yet, Bierhoff has advised Havertz to join Real Madrid instead.

When asked to describe Havertz, Bierhoff said:

He’s a player for Real Madrid…I mean it. He’s a player for Real Madrid.

He’s very young, but has everything – talent, technique, physique… He’s a complete player who will be very important for us, but he has to keep growing.

Bierhoff predicts Timo Werner will be a success at Chelsea

Marca then asked Bierhoff if he was worried about Timo Werner’s move from RB Leipzig to Chelsea.

It’s unclear why Marca would have thought that he would be concerned, yet Bierhoff predicted that Werner’s move to Chelsea will be a positive development:

(I’m not worried) at all. I played close to my entire career outside Germany and I think it’s good to leave.

You grow more, become stronger, mature and evolve more. When you leave your comfort zone you usually progress.

I loved playing abroad, I just wish I could have done it in Spain.

Some other interesting comments from Bierhoff

Marca asked Bierhoff for his favourites to win Euro 2020, which will be staged in 2021.

While Bierhoff believes that German will be in the running, he named France as the outright favourites.

Also, Marca asked Bierhoff to name the best strikers in the world without Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or any German players. He replied:

It’s not easy. I’d say (Robert) Lewandowski, (Mohamed) Salah, (Harry) Kane, (Erling-Braut) Haaland… and maybe (Karim) Benzema.
