Troyes AC acquire Brazilian Metinho; potential Manchester City future via City Football Group

Ligue 1 outfit Troyes AC has completed a deal for Brazilian youngster Metinho from Fluminese on a 5-year deal, and Manchester City could be set to benefit from it.

Through their connection as part of the City Football Group conglomerate, Troyes have secured the services of one of the brightest young players to emerge over the last 12-months. Metinho was listed in The Guardian’s Next Generation 2020, an annual list of sixty of the brightest young footballers across the globe.

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and immigrating to Brazil aged one, Metinho came through the youth ranks of Madureira before finding his way to Fluminese where he spent six years in the academy before making his full debut in March of this year.

While he will begin his next chapter in Europe in France on Troyes books, Metinho will have every chance to develop to a level that could see Manchester City tap into the City Football Group pipeline and bring him to the Etihad officially.

Similar deals have already happened in the past through the conglomerate, with notable deals for Pedro Porro (Girona FC), Daniel Arzani (Melbourne City), and Jack Harrison (NYCFC) all coming from linked City Football Group clubs.

Metinho is not the only Fluminese youngster to make the switch to Manchester City or one of its affiliated clubs this summer, with a deal for 18-year old winger Kayky also being concluded in April for a sum in the region of 10-million pounds and potential add-ons raising the figure a further 7-million.

Troyes AC will be viewed as the perfect introduction to European football for the promising Brazilian, now able to develop and ply his trade in a league lauded for its ability to progress talented young players without the pressure that comes with playing in the Premier League.
