Mahrez’s time at Man City
Before joining Manchester City Riyad Mahrez was one of the top stars for Leicester City.
However, since making the switch to Man City in July of 2018, Mahrez has struggled for regular game time.
Mahrez featured in only 27 of City’s 38 league games this past season. 12 of those appearances came from the bench.
Despite the lack of game time, Mahrez still scored 12 and assisted 12 in 44 appearances this past season.
Salah vs Mahrez
While Mahrez hasn’t had the greatest time recently, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been in excellent form.
Although to be fair to Mahrez, he would win the domestic treble with the Citizens in 2018/19.
Salah would score 27 and assist 13 in 52 outings for Liverpool last season.
Both Mahrez and Salah are now on international duty, competing in the African Cup of Nations.
Salah’s Egypt face Zimbabwe on Friday whilst Mahrez’s Algeria take on Kenya this coming Sunday.
Ahead of the pairs latest set of games, Mahrez has been speaking about being compared with Salah:
“I am not bothered at all [with comparisons with Salah].
“I hadn’t known Salah well before he came to the Premier League. That said the two seasons he played in England were exceptional.
“He deserves all what he achieved. Regarding the comparisons, I don’t follow what goes on the internet a lot. There are several Arab players playing for big clubs and it’s normal they get compared to each other and this is a good thing. I hope to see more Arab players in Europe.
“And anyway we [Mahrez and Salah] now are with our national teams and we will see who will manage to help his side more in reaching further stages.”As quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
