Pep Guardiola confirms Manchester City trio will miss Sporting clash

Manchester City are set to return to Champions League action on Tuesday evening.

Last year’s finalists are set to take on Portuguese powerhouse Sporting in the round of 16, with the first leg taking place on Tuesday.

The pair will then meet back at the Etihad for the return leg on March 9th.

Ahead of the first leg, Pep Guardiola held his pre-match press conference on Monday.

The Spaniard discussed a number of topics in the presser including team news.

When doing so, Guardiola confirmed that all of Jack Grealish, Gabriel Jesus and Cole Palmer are out of the Sporting tie: “Jack Grealish is better, but for tomorrow he is not available alongside Cole Palmer and Gabriel Jesus.”

Guardiola on Manchester City winning the Champions League

Elsewhere in the presser, Guardiola was asked if it would be a failure if Man City do not win the Champions League, to which he responded: “I’ve been in this business as a manager, you get criticised if you don’t get results. Otherwise do another job. Not a problem.

“We know our standards, I accept everything. We have incredible harmony in the team, that’s the main target for me, to fight every day. The rest, the players will do the rest.”

Guardiola also discussed the harmony in Man City’s squad right now: “The harmony right now this season is exceptional. For many reasons.

“We know each other well, accept many things for all of us, six seasons. We know each other perfectly and accept good things and bad things, everyone’s desire to play and fight.”
