The aftermath of Manchester United’s drab stalemate with Chelsea has seen a one-time star of the club call into question the summer signing of Donny van de Beek.
Man United 0-0 Chelsea
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men welcomed the Blues to Old Trafford earlier this evening, for a high-profile Premier League showdown.
Both sides no doubt headed into proceedings desperate for all 3 points, on the back of unconvincing respective starts to the campaign.
When all was said and done in Manchester, however, the spoils were shared.
An altogether disappointing 90 minutes, during which chances were few and far between, eventually saw the matchup peter out into a 0-0 draw.
‘That’s the truth’
Whilst the action on the pitch proved some way short of what was hoped for this evening, though, there remained plenty of talking points in the aftermath of the final whistle at Old Trafford.
One such takeaway surrounded the lack of game-time afforded to Donny van de Beek.
Despite the hosts having been in desperate need of a creative spark late on versus Chelsea, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to leave his side’s big-money summer addition on the bench.
Many have since expressed their frustrations with this decision, particularly when taking into account van de Beek’s positive impression during a cameo appearance at St. James’ Park last weekend.
And, as outlined above, one individual to have made no secret of his grievances with the Dutchman’s situation at present is Patrice Evra.
Speaking on Sky Sports this evening, former United stopper Evra called into question why the Red Devils even purchased van de Beek in the first place, explaining:
‘We’re talking about Van de Beek, nothing against the kid, but why has he bought him? He’s watching the game from the stand every game. We don’t need him, that’s the truth.’

Reds struggling
Elsewhere, a concerning statistic has surfaced regarding the early-season form of Solskjaer’s men.
After failing to down Chelsea, Manchester United have now not earned a victory in any of their first three home fixtures in the Premier League:
And, as revealed by the reliable Opta Joe, this marks a near-50-year low for the Red Devils:
