For the last TWENTY YEARS (!) one of the most popular items that have been promoted through Brain Damage is Nick Mason’s excellent book, Inside Out: A Personal History Of Pink Floyd signed with your choice of dedication, by Nick himself. Even though the offer has been running for such a long time, we’ve had confirmation (with an updated order form to reflect the edition of the book that his office has available) that Nick is still more than happy to take care of this for you! What better present for the Floyd nut in your life, or indeed, for yourself? Below is the current version of the order forms (from August 2024) which is the only one that should be used from now on; if you have any older versions that you were in the process of completing, please disregard them. The nice people at Nick’s office organising it offer recorded/signed delivery, whichever country you live in. Sent from the UK, the cost of the book – the UK’s recent limited edition hardback – is £80, plus shipping. This is priced at £16 (for the UK), £22 (Europe) and £33 (North America and the rest of the world), all of which require a signature on delivery. Now, those who have seen this hardback edition (the one that Nick is signing for you) will know it weighs a ton (figuratively speaking) – so wherever you live, it is an expensive item to send. However, where else can you get Nick to put your chosen message for a loved one (or yourself!) down in writing, and know that it is genuine (unlike some of the items sold daily on eBay with obviously faked signatures on)? Please be aware that at certain times, Nick may be on holiday or involved in various projects – such as his band, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets, who have just concluded their latest tour – which obviously has quite an effect on the speed that books can be signed and sent – especially as Nick writes each dedication himself. No secretarial signatures or pre-signed books here! To order the book, simply download the following form: Nick Mason signed and dedicated Inside Out book order form and complete your details, emailing the form through to the address given at the bottom. Full delivery and payment details are included on the form. Please order very early to ensure delivery for specific events (such as birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations). Our thanks to Nick and his team for continuing to make this possible.

New edition of Ron Geesin’s The Flaming Cow: The Making of Pink Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother book
On November 19th, 2021, a new, paperback edition of the book we called “a fantastic read . . . witty and incredibly detailed” is published. Ron Geesin’s ‘The Flaming Cow: The Making of Pink Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother’ is an in-depth look at the creation of the title track of the album, reviewed here when published in 2013 as a hardback (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/books/the-flaming-cow-the-making-of-pink-floyds-atom-heart-mother-ron-g.html), that offers a rare insight into the brilliant but often fraught collaboration between Pink Floyd and composer Geesin, the resultof which became known as Atom Heart Mother – the Floyd’s first UK number one album. From the time drummer Nick Mason visited Geesin’s damp basement flat in Notting Hill, to the most recent performances of the piece in France, this book is an unflinching account about how one of Pink Floyd’s most celebrated compositions came to life. Alongside unpublished photographs from the Abbey Road recording sessions (the only ones taken) and the subsequent performances in London and Paris, Geesin goes on to describe how the title was chosen, why he was not credited on the record, how he left Hyde Park in tears, and why the group did not much like the work. The Flaming Cow also explores its recent performances, and its new-found cult status that has led to it being studied for the French Baccalaureat. The book – with a foreword by Nick Mason – really is a fantastic read, coupled with the wonderful, evocative black and white shots of the band, and hired players and choir, in the midst of work at Abbey Road. Most of these have not been seen before, and these along could be argued as worth the price of admission. Setting the tone perfectly is the foreword by Nick Mason. Typically self-effacing, it acknowledges the book for what it is: “a fascinating in-depth study of one particular work”, an epic piece which Nick states “we remain fond of, proud of, and in my case slightly bemused by”. It also has one of the funniest excuses I’ve ever heard a member of the Floyd use! Jon Carin – many happy returns!
Jon Carin (https://www.facebook.com/joncarinofficial), who today celebrates his birthday (Monday, October 21st). The talented multi-instrumentalist has been a key part of the Pink Floyd
operation for many years, first working with David back in 1985 at the London Live Aid show, with both of them in Bryan Ferry’s band, and more recently toured with David Gilmour on his On An Island and Rattle That Lock tours, and Roger Waters on his Dark Side Of The Moon, The Wall Live and Us + Them tours. This saw Jon as a key member of Roger’s band for the mammoth tour, which saw the show thrill audiences across the world – live or at the recent cinema screenings, with Jon playing keyboards, guitar and more during the show. Elsewhere, he spent a whole year working with Kate Bush on her triumphant return to the live stage, in a sequence of shows which were held at London’s Eventim Apollo from August to the start of October, five years ago. The picture here shows Jon before David Gilmour’s September 2015 concert in Orange, France, which was praised as one of the best shows of that year’s tour. Jon seems to be constantly in demand, and kept very busy – a testament to what he brings to musical projects. For those who might have missed it, or want another chance to read it, check out our extensive and exclusive interview with Jon from August 2007 (http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/other-related-interviews/jon-carin-interview-august-2007-with-brain-d-3.html).
It’s full of fascinating insights into his life and work with various top musicians, including (of course) David, Roger, and Pink Floyd! Hope you are having a great day, Jon!

Now announced: Pink Floyd’s Animals 2018 Remix on multiple formats!
Something that we know probably most – if not all – of you have been eagerly awaiting, has just been announced this afternoon. Pink Floyd’s Animals 2018 Remix is being released on CD, LP (with gatefold artwork), Blu-ray, and SACD on September 16th, and on October 7th, in Deluxe Gatefold format. The Deluxe Gatefold version includes the LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD and a 32-page book. The Blu-ray and DVD audio include the 2018 remix in Stereo, 5.1 Surround (both by James Guthrie) and the original 1977 Stereo mix. The 32-page booklet features rarely seen behind the scenes photographs of the original album sleeve shoot along with live images and memorabilia. The album’s iconic cover shows an inflatable pig (known as Algie) floating between two chimneys of London’s Battersea Power Station, conceived by Roger Waters, and designed by long-time collaborator Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis Studios. For this new release, the artwork has been re-designed for the modern era by Stormâs Hipgnosis partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell. Taking new shots of the building as it appeared during the recent conversion work, Po experimented with new angles and produce some striking new takes on the classic original. Po elaborates: “With the original 1977 album cover being such an iconic piece of stand-alone art, I had the chance to update it, which was a rather daunting task, but Hipgnosis took the opportunity to re-photograph the image to reflect a changing world, and by using modern digital colouring techniques I kept Pink Floyd’s rather bleak message of moral decay using the Orwellian themes of animals, the pig Algie, faithful to the message of the album.” The main image of the train tracks and shed, already familiar to many of you following Roger Waters’ social media posts about it, features on most of the formats, but there’s a strikingly different image – a more dark, moody and colourful look at Battersea Power Station at night – used for the Blu-ray cover. The full list of format details are below (click Read More to see them), and here are the direct links available so far to place your orders (which help us with Brain Damage’s ongoing running costs, without costing anything further to you!). If the store link for the format you want isn’t “clickable”, that’s because they haven’t got the item listing live yet. Please keep trying! The SACD only seems to be available from a couple of retailers currently..
