NEW MUSIC: ‘Are you Happy?’ by SUNGLO

Grunge Rock band SUNGLO have today released their debut EP ‘Are you Happy’, which launches the band into the biggest part of their promising journey so far. The EP features their already released singles I Don’t Mind and Elevator Belle as well as three brand new tracks. The EP perfectly laces together the psychedelic sound of the Manchester hailing four-piece with emotionally-raw drenched lyrics which led to BBC Introducing describing them as ‘happy filth’, which to us – fits perfectly.

RAINPOUR

Rainpour is a huge opening track. It is the type of song you expect to be sung back at you. It’s melodic but screeching as well. The band throw so much into this catchy song and it produces an anthem of an opening track which sets the rest of the EP up perfectly.

ELEVATOR BELLE

Elevator Belle is a juxtaposition of sounds. At times, we hear a calming and soft sound which is then drastically met by pounding vocals, guitar riffs and beefy drumming in the background. This song is designed to build – it constantly feels as you are being lifted higher and higher and you are waiting for it to deliver, and it certainly does.

THE FEELING’S GONE

The Feeling’s Gone has an incredible song to it. It’s groovy and has an infectious sound. Enticing vocals being met by funky guitar solos creates a perfect combination which The Feeling’s Gone one of my personal favourites from the EP. It is a dynamic track which not only sets up but also delivers a fresh sound.

I DON’T MIND

I Don’t Mind was the band’s first-ever single release and established them as a promising act within Manchester’s Alternative Music Scene. The vocals on this track are standout – they are raw and frantic but somehow sound beautiful and calming.

FORGET ABOUT IT

The final song on the EP Forget About It is a perfect closer to an incredible EP. A softer track that combines elements of previous songs to make a dynamic mixing pot of the EP in entirety. The vocals on this track are again as beautiful as the first, which really demonstrates lead singer and guitarist Kady Jones talent.

When speaking about writing the EP, Kady explained that it was a ‘very personal DIY release that includes some of the first songs we ever wrote together as a band. It covers the grapple of holding onto your inner child while growing into the person you want to be’.

The band have just completed a string of shows from Sheffield to Camden and are playing tonight (18/07) at Night & Day in Manchester for their hometown EP release gig.
