Reports claim striker Harry Kane will inform Daniel Levy that he wants to leave Tottenham to join Manchester City when he meets with the chairman on Monday.
The England skipper is due back at the club after enjoying an extended summer break following Euro 2020. The 28-year-old led the Three Lions to the European Championship final. It was a welcome break from the constant scrutiny over his domestic future.
But that seems set to come to a head next week as showdown talks are planned with Spurs’ top men. Kane’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was thrown into doubt after an interview with Sky Sports.
He admitted that winning silverware was important in his career and a new challenge could be on the cards. That prompted speculation of a summer exit although the north Londoners have remained steadfast in their desire to keep him.
The City link will not go away, however, with rumours they will have to pay in excess of £150m. It remains to be seen if those numbers are correct.
But The Telegraph is reporting that Kane will push for a move away from the club this summer. And it seems he wants to join England team-mate Jack Grealish at the Etihad Stadium.
The Aston Villa man is also thought to be the subject of a mega-bucks offer from the Premier League champions. Tottenham insist their talisman is not for sale at any price.
But manager Nuno Espirito Santo will not want an unhappy player on his books if Spurs play hardball.
Kane Man City move far from easy
Kane might want to join the Citizens but, as ever, money talks in football. The sums involved are vast and may see Pep Guardiola having to sell players to facilitate the deal.
Reports suggest a number of stars are unhappy with being made a makeweight in any possible deal. Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte are said to have been offered to Tottenham.
Neither was keen on the idea and it is open to debate whether City will be able to raise the funs required. It is clear why Guardiola wants the man with 38 England goals in his ranks.
Kane is a goalscoring machine, with 221 for Spurs from 336 appearances in all competitions. And there is every reason to suggest his production would increase with the quality City possess in their squad.
The saga surrounding his future has gone quiet since the end of Euro 2020. But next week could be a historic one for all parties concerned.
