FPL repercussions: Pep Guardiola confirms Gundogan injury concern following Spurs defeat

 

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has, on Sunday evening, confirmed that Ilkay Gundogan may have picked up an injury versus Tottenham.

Premier League champions City of course got the defence of their title underway earlier today.

The Sky Blues made the trip to North London, for a highly anticipated showdown with Nuno Espirito Santo’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The latter were viewed as heavy underdogs on the day, in their first competitive outing under the guidance of the club’s new boss, and without the services of the absent Harry Kane.

When all was said and done in the capital, however, Spurs stood tall, to ultimately emerge on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline.

The game’s solitary goal was forthcoming ten minutes into the 2nd-half, when an explosive breakaway culminated in Heung-min Son picking out the far corner of Ederson’s net courtesy of a pinpoint left-footed strike:

Gundo concern

As outlined above, though, the eventual result at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium proved far from the only concern for a considerably below-par Manchester City outfit on Sunday.

Late in the action in the capital, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan went to ground clutching his shoulder, on the back of a heavy challenge on the sideline.

In turn, speaking during his post-match media duties, Pep Guardiola was inevitably asked for an update on the wellbeing of his midfield star.

And the Spaniard’s insight into the situation proved altogether concerning, with Guardiola having confirmed that ‘it looks like something happened’. Gundogan, as a result, is set to undergo medical scans on Monday:
