Everton facing stiff competition to sign former Chelsea man Jeremie Boga – Sky

A recent report from England has linked Everton with former Chelsea player, Jeremie Boga

Boga’s Sassuolo stint

Boga is just one of many young talents to emerge from Chelsea’s youth ranks in recent years.

Like so many, though, the winger never got a chance to shine at Stamford Bridge, instead being farmed out of a serious of loans to the likes of Birmingham and Granada.

And in 2018, Boga eventually left the Londoners on a permanent basis, joining Serie A outfit Sassuolo for a fee believed to be around £3.5m.

The 23-year-old had a fairly average debut season in Italy, but the current campaign has seen Boga take his game to new heights, netting 11 and assisting four in 34 league outings.

Everton one of a number of sides eyeing Boga

Such an impressive up-turn in form has seemingly attracted interest from elsewhere in Europe.

All of Barcelona, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund and Valencia have been linked with the wide-man this year.

There was also talk that Chelsea had a €15m buy-back clause available on Boga, though, in May the winger’s agent was unclear if the Blues would actually take it up.

In the same interview, Boga’s representative confirmed he had held talks with Napoli and Atalanta.

Now, though, according to Sky Sports News, another Premier League outfit have apparently joined the race for the Sassuolo standout.

The club in question is Everton, though Sky do admit the Toffees are facing stiff competition from clubs in Italy and Germany for Boga.

As for Chelsea, however, Sky report that Sassuolo recently agreed a deal with the capital giants to cancel their buy-back clause.

This is good news for Everton, but what probably isn’t is the fact SSN are reporting Boga could cost in excess of £35m – a fairly steep sum for a player with less than two years on his contract who has only really had one decent season.

And whilst Carlo Ancelotti seemed confident recently that the Everton board will back him in the summer, it is hard to see them wanting to pay £35m in the post-COVID-19 market for a player who isn’t overly proven.
