Chelsea make fresh contract offer to Antonio Rudiger amid fears of losing too many defenders

An update on Chelsea’s attempts to tie Antonio Rudiger down to a new contract has emerged on Wednesday.

Rudiger is now in the final six months of his current Chelsea deal, meaning he is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

And reports at the back end of 2021 implied that this could indeed happen, with Rudiger’s agent said to have had an informal agreement in place with Spanish powerhouse, Real Madrid.

Now, a fresh update on the situation has emerged and it is somewhat positive for Chelsea fans.

As per Goal, Chelsea have offered closer to Antonio Rudiger’s £200,000-a-week wage demands in another bid to keep him at the club as Chelsea are keen not to lose too many defenders this summer. It is added that there is some positivity that an agreement can be reached.

Cezar Azpilicueta speaks out on Chelsea future

Even if Rudiger does end up staying at Chelsea beyond the current season, the Blues still have another two centre-backs that could end up leaving for nothing in the summer.

These are Andreas Christensen and Cezar Azpilicueta, who are also in the final six months of their contracts.

The latter of that duo would be asked about his Chelsea future recently, but remained keen to focus on Chelsea’s upcoming participation in the Club World Cup: “I’m not going to speak about my future. We are one day before the semi-final of the tournament.

“Of course, I arrived in the summer of 2012 and I didn’t have kids. My kids were born in London and you know how I feel about Chelsea. But I am not going to comment on my future.”
