Welcome friends to another delicious slice of Beneath the Surface! Boy, do I have a treat in store for you today! For this edition, I am joined by the prince of synth pop and German heartthrob Luis Ake who has recently released double single ‘Umweg/Krafter’ alongside a quirky new video! Excited for this one? Great! Let’s get to it.
What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music? My first hero was Bon Scott from AC/DC. I still love looking at the old fotos of him. Those tight jeans, the tattoos and the expression on is face. RIP Bon, I love you.
How would you describe the music you are currently creating? All my songs are about love. Apart from that I’m doing pop music. But I don’t think of pop music is just a genre. There is so much more to it. It’s like a form of art. An ongoing performance.
What does your creative process look like? I just make songs when I feel like it is the right time to do so. I usually don’t do it when I know I am not gonna write a good song. Most of the times I start with some kind of emotion. I mix that with something musical I never did before. Just to jump in the cold water. That usually works best. I don’t like to repeat myself. I find that boring.
Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)
Scooter! Let’s make it happen H.P.!
What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?
To make a mountain of your life is just a choice. I’m sorry, I got Nada Surf’s „Always Love” in my head stuck all day.
What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?
Get heartbroken lol
What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?

Right now I am in the process of building it. The machine will be out of metal. It’s a whole lot of welding and sanding which is pretty exhausting.

Ormiston unveils his brand new indie-pop banger, ‘Step from the Limelight ’. The Montreal-based musician, formerly known as Beverlay, embraces a rhythmic drum pattern, heavy synths and vibrant electric guitars to create the foundations for his hazy pop vocal, detailing the fear of being trapped in monotony. Penned in Ormiston’s characteristically thoughtful and introspective songwriting …
