Beneath the Surface: Apache Rose

Welcome friends to another delectable dive into the musosphere. This time we are joined with Apache Rose who dig deep into their artistic journey and musical influences. So get comfy and lets get to it 🙂

What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music?

Early on it was my older brother of course. Like it is a lot of times. We lived in the US when we were little and he found several rock radio stations that we listened to a lot, recorded tapes from them. Then when we came back to Russia my new friends introduced me to Metallica and I listened only to Metallica for a year.

A little later my brother introduced me to bands that are still my favorites. Aerosmith, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots. Then I started adding some of my own: Guns and Roses, The Offspring, Red Hot Chili Peppers

I started dabbling in music in high school. It didn’t go far but a got taste for playing guitar and writing songs, which turned out to be a really satisfying process for me.

What really got me going was when I found out that there’s thing called GarageBand in iPhones and iPads. It really was a game changer for a person whose previous experiences with DAWs was really painful. It was one of those thing when technology really opens a floodgate. I started writing like crazy, no matter good or bad but writing bunches of songs

How would you describe the music you are currently creating?

The stuff we’ve just recorded is different from what I’ve done previously. It’s less rock, more alternative. I’ve stumbled on some sounds and approaches that really just sneaked inside the songwriting process. For example melodic thick signature guitar lines. Or singing a bit like Billy Corgan

What does your creative process look like?

I always write the music first. And have the track finished from top to bottom before putting on vocals.

Then I put down the vocals. I never write the full text for the song. I don’t have a concept of what the song will be about. I start with bits of phrases here and there and it all starts to come together into something

Then when I record with Anton Boyko – my producer – he has his ideas on how to complement the song or how to rearrange it. Then the songs come into their final form. He is really good at enhancing the songs

Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)

Of my heroes I guess it would be the Stone Temple Pilots. I guess they are the most collaborative among the bands I listen too)

What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?

Don’t stop trying. It applies to anything you set your mind to.
