Arsenal eyeing young left-back as back-up for Kieran Tierney

Arsenal’s need for a left-back

Arsenal have improved a fair bit in the transfer market of late.

Solid signing such as Thomas Partey, Gabriel and the loan addition of Martin Odegaard signal a much-improved recruitment plan to the one we have seen from the north Londoners over recent years.

However, the Gunners are still lacking in one main area of the pitch.

Kieran Tierney is, of course, Arsenal’s no.1 left-back and arguably one of their top players in general.

But outside of the Scotsman, the Gunners have little natural cover at left-back.

Cedric has filled in at left-back during Tierney’s recent absence. But his mistake would play a key role in Arsenal’s loss to Aston Villa at the weekend.

The Portuguese is also cover for Hector Bellerin at right-back, meaning some fresh legs are likely needed.

Arsenal to target young left-back

Now, on Monday, The Athletic have provided some insight into the type of player Arsenal are believed to be looking at to help provide cover for Tierney.

The report claims that Arsenal are aiming to sign a young left-back in the summer to learn from and support Tierney and want to add to that position in the summer.

It is added that the Gunners are said to be eyeing a young player with high quality and potential but who is also in need of experience.

At 101, we recently looked at five potential options that Arsenal could sign to provide cover for Tierney, and at least two of the players mentioned in the piece do look to fit what Arsenal are searching for.
