To celebrate Record Store Day 2025 (Saturday, April 12th), there are three, very tempting, limited edition releases coming that will be of interest to Pink Floyd fans. Firstly, Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets share an incredible live version of their interpretation of Echoes. Propelled by Nick Mason’s drumming, this recording captures the band with Gary Kemp, Guy Pratt, Dom Beken and Lee Harris at the peak of their powers. The performance was recorded on August 1st, 2024 at the Centennial Hall in Frankfurt, Germany by Steve Carr. Echoes Live was mixed by Steven Wilson with consultation and assistance from Dom Beken. This 12″ was half-speed mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road and uniquely plays from the inside-out for the ultimate sound quality. The B-side includes an exclusive etched design. Secondly, there’s a special clear vinyl 12″ of Between Two Points by David Gilmour with Romany Gilmour, from the album Luck and Strange. The four-track, vinyl-only release will feature an exclusive live version (coupled with Vita Brevis) from the Royal Albert Hall plus a new remix by Rob Gentry. Finally, in advance of his super deluxe box set, Roger Waters releases a special version of The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux Live. Pressed on limited-edition neon pink vinyl and recorded during two sold-out shows at the London Palladium in October 2023, this album captures the only live performance of Roger’s reimagined version of Pink Floyd’s seminal album. As with the other RSD 2025 releases, these are all limited editions: often the RSD releases are pressed up as just a few thousand or so worldwide, available to snap up on the day. And, as we’ve mentioned in previous years, these limited edition items are ONLY released via RSD participating stores, this year on 12th April 2025 – go to RecordStoreDay.com (https://www.recordstoreday.com/) or RecordStoreDay.co.uk (https://www.recordstoreday.co.uk) for more details of who those will be, and to get the full list of all releases in this event. A reminder that it will ONLY be these stores participating; the stores themselves can’t sell it online prior – the record will become available for customers coming through the door of the store from the morning of the 12th (and not before), in limited quantities – first come, first served, and only one copy per customer. After RSD, if copies remain, they may put them for sale online (and of course, there’ll also be copies on eBay inevitably…).

The end of the year – Pink Floyd related activities wrap-up
With the end of the year looming, it’s a good time to look back at what 2024 gave us. There’s been a lot of different releases that we’ve all experienced over the months, and it is interesting to look back at what there’s been in a busy year. In March there was the Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes release of Going Home (Theme From Local Hero), which included David Gilmour amongst around 60 musicians. April saw the lovely looking crystal clear vinyl of The Dark Side Of The Moon, with UV artwork. Later that month, Roger Waters released a picture disc of his Redux version of TDSOTM as part of Record Store Day. May brought us the Animals 2018 Remix on Blu-ray and on digital platforms, bringing the 1977 album to life in multi channel gloriousness. This was presented with new artwork from the launch of the Animals 2018 remix, showing how Battersea Power Station is used these days for such promotions. June saw the start of the 35-date Set The Controls tour from Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets, thrilling audiences in the UK and Europe, and getting better and better as a band. Let’s hope that there’s more next year! The DVD, Blu-ray and digital release of Have You Got It Yet? The Story Of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd was released in July, following the 2023 cinema screenings. Of course, in September, we saw the release of the hotly anticipated Luck And Strange from David Gilmour, which was accompanied from later that month with live shows in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, Los Angeles and New York, USA. Dates in Rome were filmed with the aim to release at some point, and once we have details of that, we’ll let you know! David also contributed a guitar solo for Ice-T’s band Body Count on their cover version of Comfortably Numb (a very unexpected collaboration!). David’s team have also edited together footage from each city of the tour to construct a live version of The Piper’s Call, released as a pre-Christmas treat. Finally, to conclude the year, there’s been another release of a bunch of live Pink Floyd concerts to be found on platforms such as Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/artist/0k17h0D3J5VfsdmQ1iZtE9?si=jRkN8zT1TqWovrf0sObizw) for a limited period. There’s thirteen gigs in total, all from 1974, and definitely worth checking out…
Pink Floyd Animals 2018 Remix – Dolby Atmos Blu-ray coming
Coming on May 17th, on Blu-ray and compatible digital platforms (Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music), is the Dolby Atmos version of Pink Floyd’s Animals 2018 Remix. It is the first time the album will have been available in Dolby Atmos. The Blu-ray includes High Resolution Stereo and 5.1 mixes alongside the 1977 Original Stereo Mix. For those who have compatible equipment to hear it in its full glory, the Dolby Atmos mix goes beyond ordinary listening by immersing the listener in the music, revealing details with unparalleled clarity and depth. Listeners will feel like they are inside the song as music moves around and above them. The album artwork has been reimagined especially for this release and presented in a digipak with a 16-page booklet, a sticker and a postcard. The front cover image still includes the iconic pig floating between two chimneys of the Battersea Power Station, conceived by Roger Waters. However, for this new release, the artwork has been re-created for the modern era by Storm Thorgerson’s Hipgnosis partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell and Peter Curzon from StormStudios, and shows the historic building as it looks now, complete with light projections, variations of which feature in the accompanying booklet. The projections and graphics were mapped and designed by Peter Curzon for the launch of the 2018 Remix and the photography is by Rupert Truman and Benny Trickett with Aubrey Powell. The Animals 2018 Remix is also available on CD, LP (with gatefold artwork), SACD and Deluxe Gatefold formats. The Deluxe Gatefold version includes LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD and a 32-page book. Metallic Spheres In Colour – The Orb and David Gilmour: EartH, London
To coincide with the release of Metallic Spheres in Colour by The Orb and David Gilmour (full details and ordering info here (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/metallic-spheres-in-colour-the-orb-and-david-gilmour-cd-lp-di.html)) on September 29th, a special event was held at EartH (Evolutionary Arts Hackney) in London to launch and perform the album. The reimagining of the original album has garnered much acclaim and brought the work to a new audience, as well as those who were already familiar with the 2010 version. This launch event was a celebration of the work undertaken. Of this new reimagining, producer Youth said that “the idea for Metallic Spheres In Colour, was that Alex Paterson (founder of The Orb) could have done more on the first version, and he didn’t really have the opportunity because we had a philosophy of making the music like the Blade Runner soundtrack meets Wish You Were Here. So, I asked him why don’t we remix it and make it like an Orb classic? And in doing that, it’s almost like a completely different album.” There were lukewarm and highly unrealistic rumours that David Gilmour would appear to recreate his guitar work, and as expected, he didn’t. A good friend of BD, Marcelo Paulo de Souza, was at the event, and sent over the following notes on the event, along with the great pictures below! Last Friday, I attended the album release party in London for Metallic Spheres in Colour by The Orb and David Gilmour. To celebrate the launch of the Metallic Spheres in Colour album, The Orb were due to perform the entire album live, alongside some classics and modern pieces. Additionally, Youth, the producer of Pink Floyd’s seminal album, The Endless River, played a DJ set that included a pleasantly strange rendition of the song Time. David Gilmour did not perform at this show. Despite the advert for the event, they didn’t perform the entire album, but just a segment. As promised, here are a few photos from the Album Release Party for Metallic Spheres in Colour last Friday:

Metallic Spheres In Colour – The Orb and David Gilmour: CD, LP, digital
Just announced: the 2010 album Metallic Spheres by The Orb and David Gilmour has been reimagined and remixed as Metallic Spheres In Colour and will be released on 29th September, on LP, CD, and digital including Dolby Atmos and 360RA. You can pre-order now through the links given below. And in doing that, it’s almost like a completely different album.” The original Metallic Spheres album initially released in 2010 was created almost by accident. In late Spring 2009 David Gilmour entered the studio to record the Graham Nash track Chicago/Change The World, originally by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, with all proceeds going to the campaign for the British hacker Gary McKinnon, who was facing extradition to the USA (later overturned and he faced no prosecution in the UK). The song also featured vocals from Chrissie Hynde, Bob Geldof and Gary himself and the campaign was also supported by Peter Gabriel, Sting and the actress Julie Christie. Ambient pioneers The Orb and producer Youth also lent their support to the campaign by remixing the track and they asked if David Gilmour would contribute further guitar parts at Youth’s studio, The Dreaming Cave, in Wandsworth. Youth and Orb leader Alex Paterson turned this session into two ambient suites, the 28 minute ‘Metallic’ and the 20-minute ‘Spheres’ and released under the name Metallic Spheres, again with all proceeds going to Gary’s campaign. The album was one of the first major releases to be issued in a version of surround sound called 3D60 Audio and remains a favourite among headphone aficionados. The CD features two tracks, as does the LP (which, rather than Side A and B, has the Round Side and Flat Side!), as follows:
– Seamless Solar Spheres Of Affection Mix (20.07)
– Seamlessly Martian Spheres Of Reflection Mix (19.44). For the digital, 360RA, Dolby Atmos and Streaming versions, the music is split as follows:
– Seamless Solar Spheres Of Affection Mix Movement 1 (11.29)
– Seamless Solar Spheres Of Affection Mix Movement 2 (8.52)
– Seamlessly Martian Spheres Of Reflection Mix Movement 1 (10.47)
– Seamlessly Martian Spheres Of Reflection Mix Movement 2 (09.16). Ordering Information:

Richard Wright’s 80th birthday marked by superb Wet Dream remix
Today would have been the much-missed, and much-loved, Richard Wright’s 80th birthday. Today sees new mixes by Steven Wilson of Richard’s debut solo album, Wet Dream, available on CD and all streaming platforms, with a deep blue transparent marbled vinyl and blu-ray edition of the album being released on September 29th. The vinyl reissue sees it on the format for the first time since its original release in 1978. It is on streaming platforms for the first time ever including a new Dolby Atmos mix, and the Blu-ray edition of Wet Dream includes the Dolby Atmos mIx, a 5.1 surround mix (DTS-HD Master Audio 96/24), the new stereo mix in Hi-Res Audio (96/24), and exclusive personal images and videos from around this period of his life. It’s housed in a book format with four collectable postcards and an 8-page booklet. Since the initial announcement, the Blu-ray has been expanded to also include a flat transfer of the original pre-master of the 1978 stereo mix, taken from the analogue reels, as well as Steven Wilson’s 2023 instrumental stereo mixes of the four vocal tracks on the album being added. This reissue comes with brand new artwork that was commissioned and art-directed by Gala and Jamie Wright, Richard’s children and managers of his estate. As per the original release, the bi-fold sleeve folds out to extend the image and features the same vibrant colour palette. This time, the unidentified person in bright red shorts is swimming within deep blue waters of the sea rather than a pool and the image expands out to reveal a boat slightly out of their reach, referencing the nautical theme of the record. The image was taken by Costas Spathis, a photographer living and working in Greece, which is where the album was written and the graphic design is by Carl Glover. The original artwork was designed by Storm Thorgerson and photographed by Audrey Powell for Hipgnosis and features in the vinyl booklet. Upon rediscovering this record (broadly speaking, quite overlooked or unknown by some Pink Floyd fans), it becomes hugely apparent how much of Richard’s DNA runs through Floyd. His distinct rhythm patterns, song structure and style of play exudes throughout, shining a light on his unique talent and influence on modern music. Yesterday evening, at the Dolby Listening Room in Soho, London, family (most of Richard’s were there), friends, and selected media were treated to a pair of playback sessions – in the pitch black – which straddled a Q&A session with Steven Wilson, hosted by Guy Pratt. First, the playback: this was the Atmos mix which is coming in September on the Blu-ray of the album, and simply put, it sounded absolutely superb. The clarity, power, and sheer musical and emotional impact made for a truly memorable night. The Q&A with Steven led to some fascinating insights into the process of finding the original master tapes (which were held at Universal in London), then getting them “baked” by Damon Iddins at Astoria (David Gilmour’s houseboat studio), before Steven could take the separate 24-track recordings and create the remix, which gives us an album which has never sounded as good as this! Here’s a glimpse at the Q&A, and the message to the attendees on a screen in the Ray Dolby Lounge (a separate screen was showing home video footage of Richard, which should be on the Blu-ray when that is released). Finally, if you’ve yet to hear it, here’s a taster of the album: ORDERING INFORMATION:

Richard Wright ‘Wet Dream’ reissue with Steven Wilson remix release details
Some great news has been announced this afternoon, following some online rumours and speculation – Richard Wrightâs debut solo album, Wet Dream, is to be reissued on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1978 – this time in deep blue transparent marbled vinyl. It will also be available on streaming platforms for the first time ever including a new Dolby Atmos mix, on CD and on blu-ray which includes a 5.1 mix and never before released personal images and videos from around this period of his life. When originally released, post Pink Floyd’s Animals (1977) and shortly before 1979’s The Wall, Wet Dream was largely under-appreciated. Steven Wilson’s mix is designed to give new life to the record demonstrating Wright’s brilliance. Richard wrote and produced the whole album himself and it was one of only three albums he released outside of Pink Floyd, the others being Broken China, from 1996, and Identity, released in 1983 under the guise of Zee, a duet with Dave Harris from Fashion. The Blu-ray edition of Wet Dream includes the Dolby Atmos mIx, a 5.1 surround mix (DTS-HD Master Audio 96/24), the new stereo mix in Hi-Res Audio (96/24), and exclusive personal videos along with a photo gallery. It’s housed in a book format with collectable postcards and an 8-page booklet. Here’s a first taste of the album: ORDERING INFORMATION:

Richard wrote and produced the whole album himself and it was one of only three albums he released outside of Pink Floyd, the others being Broken China, from 1996, and Identity, released in 1983 under the guise of Zee, a duet with Dave Harris from Fashion. The Blu-ray edition of Wet Dream includes the Dolby Atmos mIx, a 5.1 surround mix (DTS-HD Master Audio 96/24), the new stereo mix in Hi-Res Audio (96/24), and exclusive personal videos along with a photo gallery. It’s housed in a book format with four collectable postcards and an 8-page booklet. UPDATE: due to feedback on the contents of the Blu-ray, it has been expanded to also include a flat transfer of the original pre-master of the 1978 stereo mix, taken from the analogue reels, as well as Steven Wilson’s 2023 instrumental stereo mixes of the four vocal tracks on the album being added. Here’s a first taste of the album: ORDERING INFORMATION:
