Last night, ahead of his US and Canadian tour, which starts July 6th in Pittsburgh, Roger Waters appeared on the US television programme, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The late night satirical show is broadcast nightly from the historic Ed Sullivan Theater on New York City’s Broadway, and features guests being interviewed and performing. Roger was last night’s musical guest and here’s what he and his new touring band performed, as a bit of a preview for his upcoming tour:

The late night satirical show is broadcast nightly from the historic Ed Sullivan Theater on New York City’s Broadway, and features guests being interviewed and performing. Roger will be appearing at some point on the show airing on Tuesday (21st June) evening, from 11:35pm EST/10:35pm CST. The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is broadcast on the CBS television channel live, on demand and via streaming (in the US, of course), but much of the show is made available on the show’s website, their social media and on YouTube for those outside the US to watch as well. Using the pick of the reggae and soul community, who spent over three years on the work, Dub Side Of The Moon was one of the more outrageous attempts at reworking Floyd tunes that has come along over the years. And it works really well – so much so that Nick Mason has mentioned it on occasion as a version he enjoys, particularly over renditions by tribute bands and suchlike. The idea came about in 1999 when New York reggae label vice president Lem Oppenheimer convinced his colleagues that this was a viable concept to cover. He imagined it would “echo Dark Side’s album artwork – refracting Pink Floyd’s music vision through a prism of reggaes’s rich rhythmic and instrumental possibilities”. Gathering some of the best musicians of their genre, the producers approached the work seriously – so seriously in fact, that the (alleged) Wizard Of Oz synchronicity apparently works throughout! For those who missed out on it originally, or who fancy it on vinyl, Rough Trade (https://www.roughtrade.com/gb/easy-star-all-stars/dub-side-of-the-moon-a8b64474-be8b-435d-8336-ef0b3d906812) have announced an exclusive, coloured vinyl edition of just 300 copies available to order currently, ahead of the 5th August 2022 release date. With uncertainty over surges of Coronavirus cases, the January/February 2022 tour dates for Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets in the US and Canada were postponed. Rearranging existing tour dates (particularly at the moment with the heavily increased demand from all artists affected) must be incredibly difficult, as the available venues must be the right size for the act, and in a vaguely logical geographical location so bands and crews aren’t zig-zagging their way across a country in an unsustainable way. However, after what we suspect has been a huge amount of work behind the scenes, the revised US and Canadian tour has now been announced. The difficulties in sorting a revised schedule are evident in that, sadly, six gigs have had to be cancelled. These are: Cincinnati which was originally on February 1st, St Louis on February 8th, Memphis on February 9th, Kansas on February 10th, Sacramento on February 23rd and Spokane on February 27th. For all of you holding tickets for these shows, the point of sale should be in touch with a refund. The better news is that these six cancelled gigs, have been replaced by eight new shows (in different locations). There are also three of the existing shows that have moved venues, within the same cities – Washington DC, Phoenix AZ, and Vancouver BC. For rescheduled shows that will be taking place at the same venue, all previously purchased tickets will be valid for the new date. For all shows being moved to new venues, customers will be automatically refunded for their purchase and offered an exclusive presale opportunity for the new venue and date. Further information will be sent directly to the original ticket holders by email shortly, and for any additional ticketing inquiries, fans should reach out to their point of purchase. Further to our recent news that Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets had revealed more dates for their 2022 Echoes Tour, taking in twenty six new dates in the US and Canada, for those who are intending to go, a reminder that ALL the shows are NOW ON SALE! Tickets for the newly announced shows, detailed below, went on sale through the links given in two waves. Broadly speaking the first half of the tour went on sale last Friday (October 29th), with the exception of the Philadelphia date, and the Cincinnati date, which have both now gone on sale today (Friday, November 5th), along with the rest of the dates. We suspect tickets will sell quickly, as they are playing a number of relatively small, and more intimate, venues than some artists would tend to go for, with some of the venues being particularly historic and beautiful!
