Roger Waters: This Is Not A Drill tour coming to Buenos Aires, Argentina

Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 21st 2023 (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2023-tour-zone/november-21st-estadio-river-plate-buenos-aires-arge.html). We suspect there will be more shows at the venue, and other venues in that part of the world. The current show is presented live in the round – a departure from Roger’s previous shows – and we wonder if there will be different staging for this stadium show due to the practicalities of the location. The production has already been seen in the US and Canada in the latter part of 2022, and Europe in early to mid 2023, showcasing both the new visuals, and the new set list. More details of that can be found in the show pages for concerts which have already taken place on Roger’s 2022 and 2023 tour – but don’t go there if you don’t want to have any surprises spoilt! Tickets for this show will go on sale first in an exclusive instance for Santander American Express customers, starting on Monday, May 8th at 10 am local time. This pre-sale will be open for 48 hours or until stock is exhausted, whichever comes first, and then leads to the general sale. The only official sales site is AllAccess (https://www.allaccess.com.ar/event/roger-waters).

Happy Christmas; Abbey Road film and Floyd live recordings released

Well, it’s that time of year when would like to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for your support and kindness – the site is done purely for you, and as the current version of the site alone approaches 100 million visitors (with the previous version of the site reaching 21 million), we look forward to continuing to bring you news and information from the Floydian world! Whatever your plans for Christmas, the Holidays, and the New Year we hope you have a peaceful, happy and healthy time, and here’s to 2023! Roger Waters will be touring again with his striking This Is Not A Drill, this time in Europe, and fingers are crossed that Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets head out on the road again after such a superb 2022 tour. There’s also the small matter of the 50th anniversary of The Dark Side Of The Moon, of which there’s already been a couple of books (one of which is billed as an official publication) announced. In the meantime, there’s a couple of bits of interest which should help you tick away the moments that make up what would otherwise be a dull day! First, for those with access to the Disney+ streaming service, there’s a new documentary by Mary McCartney called If These Walls Could Sing. This is an absolutely fascinating look at London’s EMI Studios (as they used to be known) in Abbey Road. As befitting a place which has had so many top musicians through its hallowed doors, the documentary features new interviews with many of them, and from a Pink Floyd perspective, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Roger Waters all talk about their experiences there. A solid and absorbing look at the building and the work undertaken there. The second thing, which will probably take up a lot more of your time, is this. As could be almost seen as a bit of a Christmas present to the fans, the band have quietly released a number of 1972 recordings on the various streaming services, and also the band’s official YouTube channel. The quality is rather variable – and some of the dates/venues aren’t necessarily 100% correct – but the shows give a fascinating insight into the development of The Dark Side Of The Moon. The earliest recordings are amongst the first full public performances of the initial version of the album, which underwent many dramatic changes as they refined aspects on the road before heading into the recording studio where songs changed heavily again, to what we all now know and love. The 1972 recordings released are listed with dates and venues as per the original bootlegs, and show as: Southampton Guildhall, UK, 23 January; Carnegie Hall, New York, 5 February (actually 2 May); Rainbow Theatre, London 17, 18, 19, 20 February; Taiikukan, Tokyo, Japan, 3 March (probably 6 March); Osaka Festival Hall, Japan, 8 March; Nakajima Sports Centre, Sapporo, Japan, 13 March; Chicago Auditorium Theatre, USA, 28 April; Deutschlandhalle, Berlin, Germany, 18 May; Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, 22 September; Empire Pool, Wembley, London, 21 October; Ernst-Merck Halle, Hamburg, Germany, 12 November; Palais des Sports, Poitiers, France 29 November; Palais des Sports de L’Ile de la Jatte, Saint Ouen, France, 1 December; Vorst Nationaal, Brussels, Belgium, 5 December; Hallenstadion, Zurich, Switzerland 9 December; “Alternative Tracks 1972”. As with the batch released last year focused on 1971, these are not expected to be around for long, so make the most of them over the holiday and new year period before they disappear! Our thanks to those who emailed to let us know about these.

An Introduction To Syd Barrett – 2LP and CD reissue coming

Originally released in 2011, and now hard to find (particularly on vinyl), the compilation An Introduction To Syd Barrett is getting a deserved reissue on 2nd December 2022 on 2LP – on heavyweight 180g vinyl – and on CD. The album is designed to provide a handy overview of this visionary talent, with an eighteen track collection taking in six early Pink Floyd songs, alongside twelve of Syd’s solo recordings. David Gilmour, who originally worked on Syd’s two solo albums, as co-producer of The Madcap Laughs and as producer of Barrett, was the executive producer for the album. Damon Iddins and Andy Jackson at Astoria Studios remixed five tracks including Octopus, She Took A Long Cool Look, Dominoes and Here I Go, with Gilmour adding bass guitar to the last track. Pink Floyd’s Matilda Mother also received a fresh 2010 mix. Both versions of the album feature the original 24-page booklet and graphics plus all lyrics, and was designed including the cover art by long time Pink Floyd associate the late Storm Thorgerson and his estimable studio. Here’s the track listing, with the side splits for the vinyl edition (the CD just has all eighteen tracks on one side):
SIDE ONE: Arnold Layne / See Emily Play / Apples And Oranges (Stereo Version) / Matilda Mother (2010 Mix)
SIDE TWO: Chapter 24 / Bike / Terrapin / Love You / Dark Globe
SIDE THREE: Here I Go (2010 Remix) / Octopus (2010 Mix) / She Took A Long Cool Look (2010 Mix) / If It’s In You / Baby Lemonade
SIDE FOUR: Dominoes (2010 Mix) / Gigolo Aunt / Effervescing Elephant / Bob Dylan Blues The album is reissued in the UK and Europe on 2nd December 2022, with North America/elsewhere following in due course. ORDERING INFO:Should you wish to place an order for this reissue, below are some direct links for you. Once we have the US/Canadian links, we’ll add them here. Roger Waters: This Is Not A Drill Europe 2023 tour expands

Further dates have been released for the 2023 Roger Waters This Is Not A Drill tour of Europe, with some tickets already on sale, and most of the newly announced shows going on presale this coming Wednesday, with the general sale starting on Friday. Tickets for some of the shows are already selling very quickly. Important: please check the individual show(s) you are interested in for confirmation of the exact ticketing details for that event, as they might differ from the majority. This European tour announcement is on the back of his current tour of the US and Canada, which is 30 shows in, with 12 still to play. The new staging sees the band playing “in the round”, with Roger prowling the stage to present to all sides of the arenas. Above is a new screen, arranged in a kind of cross. We don’t want to say too much for those who are trying to avoid spoilers! You might also notice from this new graphic to support the European tour, that it refers to “his first ever farewell tour” – make of that what you will, not least as a farewell tour isn’t normally referred to as that person’s “first ever”! Maybe it is Roger having a little joke… We suspect the following list will grow quickly, so please keep checking back for more details. Each show will link off to a specific page for that event, including ticket links, directions to the venue, and – once the show has taken place – details of the set list, video from the show, and submitted reviews and pictures from kind Brain Damage readers. Here’s the dates so far, as revealed on Roger’s website, along with ticketing websites in some of the countries. We’re keeping an eye out for further shows as they get added to the schedule.
