Toronto-based alternative singer-songwriter magenta release the new4-track EP, Angel.
Emerging alt-pop artist Magenta has been gaining recognition for her emotionally charged songwriting and deeply relatable storytelling. Her music resonates with fans who appreciate intimate, narrative-driven compositions. Drawing inspiration from artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Gigi Perez, and Jeremy Zucker, she is carving out her own space in the alt-pop genre.
Her upcoming EP, Angel, delves into the complexities of young queer love, capturing the journey from initial attraction to the instinct to protect and nurture a meaningful connection. The EP serves as a sonic diary, weaving together themes of tenderness and vulnerability that define early relationships. Written in the early stages of her current relationship, the project showcases Magenta’s introspective lyrics and ethereal production, offering listeners a glimpse into her personal experiences of love, hope, and self-discovery.
The lead single, Don’t Mess with Her Hope, acts as the emotional core of the EP. Written independently in her university dorm room, the song emerged organically as she processed her emotions in real time. After crafting the initial demo, Magenta collaborated with producer Joshua Northwood to refine the track, blending delicate melodies with a heartfelt, storytelling-driven sound.
“This track is the final piece of Angel’s story. It’s about protecting the person you love and holding onto hope, even in uncertain moments,” Magenta explains. “I hope listeners connect with the music and find hope in love, just as I have through this relationship.”
Angel was made possible through funding support from FACTOR Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts, highlighting the strong community backing for emerging Canadian talent. Magenta’s willingness to share raw, personal experiences through her music continues to resonate with audiences, positioning her as a promising new voice in the alt-pop landscape.
