Shaw latest & Lingard absent: Key takeaways as Man United squad link up for Everton clash

The Manchester United squad have tonight linked up, ahead of the club’s Premier League showdown with Everton on Saturday.

Toffees test

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are set to return to action in a little over 12 hours’ time, in the first of the weekend’s fixtures in the English top-flight.

The Red Devils will play host to Rafael Benitez’s high-flying Everton, hopeful of building on a much-needed victory during the week.

After slipping to a 3rd defeat in four at the hands of Aston Villa last weekend, United had star man Cristiano Ronaldo to thank for a last-minute winner en route to a Champions League group stage downing of Villarreal on Wednesday night.

The Reds’ upcoming opponents, though, will prove no pushovers.

Under the guidance of Rafa Benitez, Everton have enjoyed a fine start to the campaign, sitting joint-2nd in the Premier League table with 13 points from an available 18.

Shaw returns

In turn, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will no doubt be keen to have as many of his side’s key performers as possible fit and available to feature from the off at the Theatre of Dreams tomorrow afternoon.

And, as the clash inches ever closer, United, this evening, have been handed a boost.

This comes in the form of confirmation that Luke Shaw, who was forced to sit out the action versus Villarreal during the week, has linked up with the rest of the club’s squad at the Lowry Hotel.

The English international joins the likes of Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba in a strong 22-man panel.

Nowhere to be seen on Friday night, on the other hand, was sidelined captain Harry Maguire, whilst Jesse Lingard was also not part of the group to have convened at the Lowry premises in Manchester.

As per the Manchester Evening News, the English international ‘was celebrating his daughter’s third birthday’, with it currently ‘unclear’ whether Lingard will join up with his Red Devils teammates ahead of kick-off on Saturday.
