The British public has shown its support for National Health Service (NHS) workers and carers on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis.
Thousands across the country clapped, cheered and even set off fireworks to show appreciation for healthcare workers at 20:00 GMT.
Here’s what rugby players have been saying:

Shame no one will be able to hear me clap tonight. My closest neighbour is nearly half a mile away, but that’s not going to stop me. X #ClapForCarers pic.twitter.com/J6Yez0uWOv

I gather we will applaud the NHS at 8pm this evening. A better show of appreciation for its great work would have been to vote for a party that truly cares for it. History being rewritten again; any way, they are giants of our land. I’ll vote and stand for them @NewStatesman

As kids, we thought heroes wore capes and had superpowers.
As adults, we know that heroes are the ones who put themselves before others. The ones who risk their own lives to save others. The ones on our NHS frontline.
We cannot thank you enough

1. Jannie du Plessis
He studied medicine at the University of the Free State and became a qualified doctor, making him one of the few players in the professional era of rugby union to have a career outside of the sport while playing professionally.
