Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has stated his frustration after his side conceded late to draw 1-1 against Nottingham Forest
Lyndon Dykes ensured his side would be leading at the break. He met a floated ball in from Albert Adomah to bullet a header home on the stroke of half-time. QPR looked like there were heading to fourth in the table with a much-needed victory. However, a 92nd-minute half-volley from Jack Colback ensured Forest left Loftus Road with a share of the spoils.
Taking a wicked deflection off Jimmy Dunne, the run of conceding late goals continued for Warburton’s men, when Colback found the back of the net.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Warburton said: “It’s a very painful goal to go in late.
“It’s just so frustrating to get to 92 minutes and be in that control and it’s a one-off shot, nasty deflection and nothing Seny (Dieng) can do, so it hurts now but a lot of positives in that second half.”
The Rs have now conceded six goals in the 88th minute or later in their last eight Championship fixtures.
Despite the obvious worry about the concentration towards the latter end of the game, QPR’s boss insists there are encouraging signs.
“I think there’s a lot more fluidity. We denied them opportunities and we looked very, very dangerous,” added Warburton. “We had three or four very good chances so I’m pleased for the players in terms of their response but they’re hurting in there now.”
“I thought we showed a lot of character, very good second half performance, created a lot of chances.”
The sucker punch delivered by Colback means QPR are fifth in the Championship. They sit above a cluster of clubs that are on 21 points.
Warburton said: “They’re hurting in there because they wanted all three points but we’ve taken a point off a very tough opponent.”
The Hoops face back-to-back away games as they travel to Cardiff and Blackpool next week.
QPR pushing for play-offs
The Hoops boss Mark Warburton has stated his side need to push ‘very hard’ for a play-off place.
Picking up 22 points from 15 games, the R’s are winless in their last two league games.
Finishing eighth last season, Warburton has urged his side to better that and finish in the top six.
“We have to look to improve on last year’s performance,” said Warburton. “We were two points off seventh and as a squad as a group of players, we have to improve on that performance. That for us means we have to push hard for a play-off place.”
Despite being in the play-off places, the manager says his side are punching above their weight financially.
“We’re punching above in terms of budget but we have to make sure we push very hard.”
