Photos l Interview: Yung Yogi Plays First Solo Headlining Los Angeles Show

Special Guest

Who: Yung Yogi

Where: Catch One, Hollywood, California

When: January 11, 2020

Q: How are you feeling after your first headlining show?

A: “I feel good. I feel good. Comfortable, confident, and I’m excited to build it and see where I get in the future.”

Q: What do you take in as inspiration for your music?

A: “James Brown, Shakewell’s work ethic and where he was to where he is now. Elton john, jimmy Hendrix, Sublime, Beethoven, Von Zimmer, John Williams.”

Q: What is your creative process for collaborating with other artists?

A: “Link up, smoke up, vibe, & pick a beat we both like to start recording.”

Q: What artists have you not had the chance to collaborate with, but want to in the future?

A: “Shit, that’s a hard one. Probably Pete, because I knew him, we were friends, and there was some talk about a collaboration between him and not specifically me, but me and my band.”

Q: What’s an average day like for you?

A: “I go to the movies, play Nintendo Switch, or go to the studio.”

Q: What advice would you have for someone wanting to pursue music as a career?

A: “Don’t stop making music. Keep working on your craft and don’t take no for an answer. Failure is a part of success, so don’t be afraid to fail. Alfred told Batman best, “Why do we fall down? To pick ourselves back up.” That’s what I gotta say about that.”
