Paper Talk: Liverpool boosted as Adrian replacement is put up for sale this week; huge approach for Juan Mata

Liverpool have been lifted after a goalkeeper target was told he can leave this week for a modest fee, while Juan Mata could be on the move after a massive proposal for the Manchester United playmaker, according to Saturday’s transfer gossip.

JACK BUTLAND TO LEAVE STOKE

Stoke have put Jack Butland up for sale and are determined to offload the keeper before the week is out.

The former England keeper’s contract at Stoke expires next summer and a parting of ways seems inevitable.

Butland remains one of the Potters’ highest earners following their relegation at the end of the 2017/2018 season.

He has been linked with a move to Liverpool over recent days as the Reds look to bring in more goalkeeper cover.

Regular No 1 Alisson is sidelined for around six weeks with a shoulder injury. His deputy Adrian once again failed to cover himself in glory since stepping in. He shipped seven goals in the humiliating 7-2 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday.

It was claimed on Friday that the Spanish stopper may never play for the Reds again. While perhaps only culpable for one of the goals, Adrian’s performances have come under scrutiny before. He was blamed as Liverpool lost to Atletico Madrid just before lockdown.

With the EFL window closing on Friday, deals between Premier League and EFL clubs can still be conducted.

As per the Daily Mirror, who cite Football Insider, Butland has been told he can leave this week before the window shuts.

Stoke are reported to have placed a £5m price on Butland’s head – a fee that would not dissuade Liverpool.

It certainly would not come as a shock to see Butland in Liverpool’s goal during their next game against Everton a week today.

One of Adrian’s teammates has this week suggested the Spanish keeper will not play for Liverpool again.
