Paper Talk: Brazil defender offered to Tottenham; Southampton move for Man Utd star

Tottenham will continue to pursue Milan Skriniar on deadline day, but have a Roma defender as a potential Plan B, while Southampton could move to sign a Manchester United full-back, according to Monday’s transfer gossip.

JUAN JESUS OFFERED TO TOTTENHAM

Tottenham will attempt to make a final effort to convince Inter Milan to sell Slovakia defender Milan Skriniar.

The Inter Milan centre-back has been Jose Mourinho’s top centre-back target for the majority of the summer.

Spurs’ hope of landing the defender suffered a setback on Sunday when the defender was selected by Antonio Conte to face Lazio. He had previously been used off the bench, raising hopes he could leave.

Mourinho would have been hoping to see Skriniar left out of the game, in the hope of moving to north London.

However, the Daily Mirror claims Spurs will continue to pursue a deal.

If they are to be successful, they will have to increase their offer if they are to land their man.

Inter value the 25-year-old at around £50million, while Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was only willing to part with £30m.

Mourinho, however, appears destined to miss out on Skriniar.

As such, transfer expert Duncan Castles claims Roma defender Juan Jesus is emerging as a potential Plan B.

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Castles claims the 29-year-old is being considered by Spurs as an alternative.

Rated at around £7.2m, Roma could be forced to sell Juan Jesus with his deal due to expire in June 2021.

Castles said: “One other option that’s being floated as a possibility for a centre-back at Tottenham is the Roma former Brazilian international, Juan Jesus, who Roma want around €8m for.

“I don’t think that will be the preferred choice of the manager.”

However, there is a growing belief Spurs could make their move for the four-times capped Brazil international.

Roma are looking to offload Juan Jesus to fund their own move for Chris Smalling.
