On this day in 2001, the modern era EuroLeague crowned its first champion when Virtus Bologna, then known as Kinder, defeated Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, then Tau Ceramica, 82-74 in the fifth-and-deciding game of the best-of-five finals series in Bologna, Italy.
