The resumption of the La Liga campaign took a major step forward this afternoon, following an announcement on the part of the Spanish government.
Bundesliga leads the way
As the COVID-19 crisis continues to wreak havoc on events around the globe, football has of course been at a near standstill since March.
In Europe, Belarus, for almost two months, stood as the only country in which top-flight football continued to be played, with the Champions League and Europa League having also been postponed.
Uefa has postponed the Champions League, Women’s Champions League and Europa League finals.

Recent weeks, however, have seen positive steps taken towards the resumption of a number of the continent’s top leagues.
Germany of course represents the standard-bearer as things stand, after the Bundesliga got back underway last weekend.
Plans for the return of both the Premier League and Serie A in June, meanwhile, have been forthcoming over the last couple of weeks.
Spanish football inching closer
As outlined above, though, a major announcement on behalf of Spain’s government a short time ago saw the La Liga campaign leapfrog its counterparts in both England and Italy towards an imminent resumption.
Confirmation has been forthcoming that professional sport will be permitted to get back underway behind closed doors from the 8th of June.
This means that top-level Spanish football could return to our screens in just over two weeks’ time.

The Spanish government’s announcement, though, has since been met with scepticism on the part of La Liga’s stars.
As reported by a host of journalists across the country, the majority of players and coaches alike feel that a June 8th restart would be premature, amid concerns over a lack of match fitness, and the potential injury repercussions which could ensue.
