Official: Bayern Munich confirm sacking of Niko Kovac

German giants Bayern Munich have this evening confirmed that they have parted ways with manager Niko Kovac with immediate effect.

Bayern embarrassed

Kovac’s Bayern visited the Commerzbank-Arena yesterday afternoon, for their latest Bundesliga outing.

The Bavarians headed into proceedings on an improved run of form of late, having put a pair of winless meetings with Hoffenheim and Augsburg firmly behind them with 3 straight victories across all competitions.

What subsequently unfolded in Frankfurt, however, saw Bayern slip back into their rut, in embarrassing fashion.

After Jerome Boateng was handed his marching orders with just 9 minutes on the clock, Eintracht took full advantage, to eventually put 5 goals past the champions.

This marked the heaviest defeat suffered by the Bavarian powerhouse in over 10 years.

Kovac sacked

As such, after slipping 4 points behind surprise early Bundesliga pacesetters Borussia Monchengladbach, murmurs over the last 24 hours began to mount that the Bayern hierarchy were taking into serious consideration Niko Kovac’s position with the club.

And, on the back of widespread speculation this evening that a decision was imminent, the German champions have since confirmed that they have opted to part ways with their tactician:

Bayern announced the news across their social media platforms a short time ago:

Kovac’s reign at the helm at the Allianz Arena lasted 18 months, and saw the Croatian secure the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and DFL-SuperCup titles.
