Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets heading to Australia!

Some (hopefully) great news for our friends in Australia – Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets have just revealed that they are coming to your country for a string of concerts in September 2023! Details of the dates and venues are below. There’s no need to panic as the tickets don’t go on sale immediately. There’s a TEG Dainty (https://www.tegdainty.com) and a Ticketek (https://premier.ticketek.com.au) pre-sale, which start on Monday, 20th March at 10am local time – go to their respective websites for more details of how to participate in these pre-sales. This is followed by the general sale of tickets which starts on Wednesday, 22nd March, again at 10am local time. New issue of Spanish language Animals Pink Floyd Magazine out now

Animals Pink Floyd Magazine (http://www.animalspinkfloydmagazine.com/2019/09/disponible-fanzine-n-20-con.html), published by BD’s good friend José Abellán. This extremely well produced, glossy, 48 page magazine was produced with the participation of Aubrey Po Powell, and features a previously unseen, unused Hipgnosis image on the cover. The image is an old design created in 1974 for an avant-garde theatre company that Pink Floyd knew, and the image was then under consideration as the cover design plans for the band’s next album. The magazine is being printed in limited numbers, and at the request and express wish of the members of Pink Floyd, Po and Peter Curzon (StormStudios), all proceeds from the sales of this fanzine will go to the non-profit organization AFAPADE – Association of Relatives and Friends of People with Autism and other Developmental Disorders of the Region of Murcia Spain. The magazine also comes with an A4 card with the Hipgnosis image (a clean version without the cover text on it), a couple of postcards, a Waters ITTLWRW die-cut pig, and is signed and numbered by José. The well illustrated contents cover a wide range of recent events: Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets, the Madrid staging of Their Mortal Remains – and an interview with Po about the exhibition, Roger’s Us + Them tour and recent studio album, a look at David Gilmour’s Pompeii release, the creation/origins of the Animals album and cover, and a piece on the forthcoming box set, The Later Years. Pink Floyd film soundtrack feature in new issue of Shindig! Magazine

new issue (number 120) of the UK’s Shindig! Magazine (https://www.silverbackpublishing.rocks/product/pre-order-shindig-120-on-sale-7th-october/) is in stores now, and as its cover picture shows, has an item of interest to Pink Floyd fans. Within the pages of the magazine is an eight page feature looking at the Floyd’s work over their early years creating accompanying music to a range of films, with a focus on Peter Whitehead’s Tonite Let’s All Make Love In London, Barbet Schroeder’s More, Michelangelo Antonioni’s Zabriskie Point, and Schroeder’s La Vallee (which lead to the album Obscured By Clouds). There’s the odd mention of other work they did (such as touching on The Committee). The article is an interesting summation of their work on these films, how they approached the writing of the songs, and how the recordings were done – in some instances, with very little time to come up with suitable music to accompany the onscreen action, or with demanding director’s who dismissed each offering with a different criticism.. Elsewhere in the magazine are features on XTC’s Andy Partridge, Dion, and The Move. Abbey Road Studios x Pink Floyd – The Dark Side Of The Moon; more merchandise

Added to this is a “unique replica print of the session sheet created for the recording of what would become the band’s seminal album, The Dark Side Of The Moon, recorded at Abbey Road between 30 May 1972 – 9 February 1973. This sheet is an exact replica of the original, which has been held within the Abbey Road archives for 50 years unseen by the public and indeed, Pink Floyd, until now. “This session sheet is dated 30 May 1972 ‘onwards’, highlighting the set-up that was used on the very first studio session for the album, a set-up that would remain as the default for much of the album’s subsequent Studio Three sessions with recording engineer Alan Parsons.
