The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains has just announced that it is going to the USA as its long-awaited next step, arriving in the country for the first time. The exhibition will open at the Vogue Multicultural Museum in Los Angeles, California in 2021. The venue, along Hollywood Boulevard, is considered a historical landmark of Los Angeles. The building was built in 1935, and was eventually remodelled in 1959. It closed its doors in 1995. The space has been used for film locations and live performances. Now, the Vogue Multicultural Museum has opened its doors to welcome all types of cultural and artistic expressions, becoming a unique place in the heart of Hollywood, and the Pink Floyd exhibition is the first exhibition it is hosting. Due to popular demand, The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains, the magnificent and critically acclaimed major retrospective of Pink Floyd, their music and the impact the band had on art and culture is remaining in Montreal, Canada, for a little longer. Following its hugely successful debut at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum in 2017, which saw over 400,000 people attend, the exhibition has subsequently traveled to Italy, Germany, Spain and the United States attracting over 500,000 people and is now running in the cultural hub of Montreal. The Exhibition opened on November 4 at Arsenal Contemporary Art Montreal, which is proving to be a great venue for the immersive experiential journey through Pink Floyd’s world. The band played in Montreal a number of times, including the concert which concluded the 1977 tour, and inspired The Wall. The exhibition is now due to run until February 5th, 2023, giving more people the opportunity to visit – and if you can get along to it, you really won’t regret it! A quick alert for – principally – those of you in the UK. If you find yourself with little to do on Friday morning, especially with the current Covid restrictions, you could do worse than tune in to the Sky Arts television channel (now available on Freeview channel 11, as well as through other providers including Sky and Virgin Media). From 11:30am until 12:00pm, there’s a special show called “Auction” which takes a look at the sale back in June 2019 which raised a staggering $21.5million for the ClientEarth charity. The programme description simply notes: “The huge personal guitar collection of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour comes to Christie’s – including the black Fender Stratocaster that featured on many of the band’s records.” Whatever the show covers, should be worth tuning in where possible (or setting your recorders if you can’t watch it on broadcast).
