Where’s next for Mauricio Pochettino?
Could the Argentine become the next Manchester United manager?
That issue is assessed by the Athletic’s Daniel Taylor on Sunday, ahead of Man United’s trip to Sheffield United in the Premier League.
Man United should head to Bramall Lane in good spirits following five wins in their last six matches.
And yet, rumours persist that Pochettino could move to Old Trafford to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the dugout.
According to Daniel Taylor, however, the Man United board seem content with OGS:
I have heard various reports from behind the scenes at Old Trafford recently that Manchester United’s highest-ranking executives are encouraged by what could be described as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s unseen work and that they are sticking to their belief it will ultimately lead to better results.
However, Daniel Taylor remains convinced that Pochettino’s Tottenham sacking has ramped up presser on Solskjaer:
A bad result for Solskjaer’s team at Sheffield United today and we all know which way the headlines will turn.
The awkward truth is that Pochettino has put together a body of work that suggests he would be an upgrade. And, unfortunately for Solskjaer, that is going to remain an issue unless Bayern Munich or another club take the problem away.
What about Pochettino joining Arsenal?
Boos were again heard at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday following a 2-2 draw with Southampton.
Southampton could – and probably should – have won the match, after they twice took the lead in north London.
Arsenal’s backline were asleep as Danny Ings opened for Southampton.
Alexandre Lacazette levelled in the first half, only for James Ward Prowse to score Southampton’s second after Bernd Leno had saved his penalty.
Lacazette scored in the dying seconds, however that goal failed to lift the sour mood around Arsenal.
A quick check on social media reveals how many Arsenal fans are already calling for Unai Emery to be sacked and Pochettino appointed.

Meanwhile, in the Sunday Times, reporter Jonathan Northcroft has penned an article titled “Arsenal should go for Mauricio Pochettino”. Reader are told:
Unai Emery is a decent and earnest man. But nearly 18 months into his reign at Arsenal, does anyone know for sure his tactics, his best XI, and where he stands on such as Mesut Ozil? Does he?
Pochettino would give Arsenal purpose. He would develop the exciting crop of new talent springing from their academy. He would have an answer to the Ozil and Xhaka enigmas — shape up, or step out.
Yet, against that backdrop, there’s little to suggest that Pochettino will ever join the Gunners.
Indeed, back in 2018, Pochettino said the following about the possibility he’d ever manage Arsenal:
I am never going to be manager of Barcelona or Arsenal because I am so identified with Tottenham and Espanyol.
I grew up in Newell’s Old Boys and will never manage Rosario Central.
That is my decision because I prefer to work on my farm in Argentina than in some places.

One game, one win for Jose Mourinho.
Tottenham won their first away Premier League match of 2019 on Saturday away at West Ham.
Goals from Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane earned Spurs the three points.
West Ham scored two late goals through Michail Antonio and Angelo Ogbonna.
Prior to the West Ham game, Mourinho had joked about Dele Alli’s form:
I have already spoken with him and I asked him if he was Dele or Dele’s brother. He told me he was Dele. ‘OK,’ I said. ‘Play like Dele’.
After the match, Dele Alli discussed Mourinho’s ‘brother’ joke:
He made a joke about it, but a lot of people have been talking about that for a few years now.
It’s nothing new to me really. A lot of people say to me – am I going to find my old form?
I don’t want to find my old form, I want to improve on it.
