Hertha Berlin sporting director Michael Preetz says Liverpool intend to bring Marko Grujic back to Merseyside for pre-season training.
Grujic has spent the last two seasons on loan at the German side but his future past this campaign remains unclear.
Reports say several clubs, including Hertha and Borussia Monchengladbach, are keen on a permanent deal.
Liverpool’s long-term stance on the Serbian is not yet known but Preetz says he is a player his side will “always think about”.
“Of course, we are in talks with Liverpool,” Preetz told Kicker (via Sport Witness). “Last summer, a door opened.
“Jurgen Klopp signalled to me that they were ready to loan Marko for another year.
“Now they want him back and he should complete the [pre-season] preparation there. I cannot say today what will happen.
“But Marko is a player we will always think about here at Hertha.”
Grujic has only missed five Bundesliga games this term and is a regular starter for his loan club.
The 24-year-old said last month it remains his “dream” to become a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
However, Liverpool are well-stocked in the midfield department, with Adam Lallana the only imminent departure so far.
What’s more, youngster Curtis Jones has shown promise and may feature more next season.
Indeed, Klopp could give the 19-year-old significant game time before the end of this term, after clinching the Premier League title with seven games left.

Elsewhere, reports say Liverpool will soon pay up to £10million in transfer bonuses to English clubs following their title win.
The monies owed form part of contracts agreed with Southampton, for example, in the deal for Virgil van Dijk.
Indeed, the Saints – who also sold Lallana, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren to the Reds – will receive a significant financial boost.
