In Conversation with Fer

Brand new, bright and shiny, Fer is a young singer with massive tunes and goals. Inspired by many indie bands, such as GIrl In Red, she has a desire to be her generation’s indie icon. We take a moment to chat with this inspirational young woman about her new single ‘Wild’ and much more!

Why did you decide to enter the music industry?

I’ve always loved music. I started writing songs when I was a 9-year-old. My biggest dream is to inspire people with my music, but living in a small Mexico city I never thought I could record and share music. Two years ago I met my best friend and together we supported each other to follow our dreams.

Can you tell us about your single ‘Wild’?

I wrote ‘Wild’ two years ago. Inspired by my first girl crush, I wanted to write a song about how confusing having a crush can be and, at the same time, how you can’t choose who to love.

What was the recording and writing process like?

I had the melody idea while taking a shower. After that, it was really easy. I just thought about my crush and the lyrics wrote itself.

Does ‘Wild’ have any significant meaning to you?

Yes, ‘Wild’ to me is about a phase when I discovered myself while falling in love. I understood that you can’t choose who to love – love is love. Besides, when you love someone you turn wild in a way that you don’t think straight and make decisions with your instincts and feelings.

What do you hope people take from the single?

That you can’t choose who to love, so don’t stress too much about it. Just be yourself.

What is more challenging for you – melody and lyrics?

The melody is harder for me because I always think that it can be better. I just overthink it while writing.

How do you keep yourself motivated?

I think of singers and musicians who started at the bottom and are now really successful. Besides, when I’m feeling down I have my family and friends who always cheer me up and motivate me.

What do you think is the best way to discover new music?

Right now, I think the best way is social media. Having a lot of followers is really helpful. When a lot of them share your music you are more likely to get discovered.

What does the rest of 2020 hold for Fer?

I’m planning on recording my first EP and collaborating with other artists.

Do you have a message for our readers?

Trust yourself; that’s the most important thing when you’re following your dreams.
