Harry Kane sponsors Leyton Orient for 2020/21 season with proceeds set for good causes

Harry Kane has announced an agreement with Leyton Orient, which is set to see the Tottenham star sponsor the League Two outfit next season.

Kane’s rise to stardom

Kane, 26, has long stood as one of English football’s most prolific hitmen.

All told, across 280 appearances in the colours of Spurs, the one-time Arsenal youth has racked up a hugely-impressive 181 goals.

Kane’s exploits have also seen him secure a pair of Premier League Golden Boots.

Tottenham reaping the benefits of their talisman’s talents in front of goal, though, only came after Kane had honed his craft whilst out on a series of loan spells.

Between 2011 and 2013, the then-youngster lined out for all of Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City.

‘The opportunity to give back’

And, evidently, Kane maintains a strong connection with the first of these aforementioned clubs.

The 45-time capped English international was handed his first senior professional appearance by Leyton Orient during a 6-month loan spell 9 years ago.

Kane also went on to score his first senior goal whilst plying his trade at Brisbane Road, and eventually returned to Spurs having found the back of the net 5 times in 18 appearances with the O’s.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on clubs across England, though, Orient, in League Two, are one of a host of sides who could be set for a major financial struggle over the seasons to come.

With gate receipts out the window for the time being, many smaller outfits will struggle to stay afloat.

Such concerns at Orient, though, have since seen Kane take decisive action.

In an announcement across the Tottenham captain’s social media platforms this evening, Kane confirmed that he has agreed to fund the sponsorship of his former side for the 2020/21 campaign.

Making the gesture an even more impressive one is the fact that the attacker has donated this sponsorship to a trio of good causes.

Orient’s home jersey will feature a thank you message to ‘frontline heroes’, their away shirt is set to be highlighted by a Haven House children’s hospice logo, while mental health charity Mind will take centre stage on the club’s 3rd kit.

As per the Guardian, ‘Orient will give 10% of all shirt sales to Kane’s nominated charities.’

Speaking on the back of confirmation of the agreement, Kane explained:

‘I was born and brought up only at a couple of miles from the stadium and I am really happy to have the opportunity to give back to the club that gave me my first professional start.’

‘This also gives me a platform to be able to say a big thank you to the many frontline heroes and charities who provide care and support during these challenging times.’
