Dan from Turtle Tempo’s pick: Children of the State – Big Sur
‘Big Sur’ is a beautifully crafted single by versatile quintet Children of the State, the release is a dreamy 60s inspired hit which features a superb guitar solo and I could listen to this for hours on end. Speaking on their Facebook page, “Big Sur is about wanting to get away to the beach which seems ever more relevant to us on a daily basis, but for now please stay home and stay safe”.
No doubt that the single sounds a fair few miles away from their hometown in Doncaster, but these guys are certainly one to keep an eye on.

Alex from Indie Central Music’s pick: Asylums – A Perfect Life In A Perfect World
Making a grand return earlier this year with comeback single ‘Catalogue Kids’, Asylums have Asylums return to a seemingly ever-changing landscape with the world in the throes of the ‘Coronavirus’ epidemic.
What better time to imagine how things could be in ‘A Perfect Life In A Perfect World’…
The single is taken from their highly anticipated third album Genetic Cabaret (due July 17th) which was produced to encapsulate the current mood of not just the UK but the world under these times of uncertainty.
On the single, frontman Luke Branch said: “The sentiment of ‘A Perfect Life In A Perfect World’ has taken on a different meaning for me over the last month or so which has led to us deciding to release it now.
“Originally it was about my own struggles with low moods and not always living in the moment, thinking about how life could be all the time. Now during this period of uncertainty and profound challenge for the country and the world it feels more like a song about the future, a song about how we might want to conduct ourselves after this period of isolation and reflection. I hope very much that centres around kindness, community, creativity and compassion”. Accompany the single is a music video featuring the four-piece in London taking in the vast scenery it has to offer.
Fred from It’s All Indie’s pick: The Assist – Life
The lovely lads over at The Assist have today unveiled their massive new single, “Life”, which is helping the quartet raise funds for the NHS. With all of their songs sounding massive this new cut is like all of its predecessors, but with added electronics which is a nice touch as it shows the band is still evolving . Soaring guitars in the bridges are a real highlight for me and when it gets to the chorus the band are back to their funky Indie-Pop vibes.
The Assist have done it – yet – again – flawless from one of the best unsigned bands in the country. Be sure to donate to their JustGiving (which is at £775 currently) here.
Michael from Nexus Music Blog’s pick: Quorum – Boyfriend
A slightly different route today on our selection as we highlight indie band and four piece “Quorum”. Consisting of Jordan (Hookway) vocals and guitar, Jake (Hodgson) guitar, Noah (Groves) bass and backing vocals and Mack (Hodgson) drums. Based close to Exeter, the four piece have seen their latest track ‘Boyfriend’ reach BBC Introducing Track of the Week and continue to draw praise.
Considering the track is set for upbeat moods and nice weather, we feel like it fits perfectly for today’s mood. The track takes on the classic “forbidden fruit” scenario, and the band have perfectly tackled it with the tonality and surrounding arrangement. It’s a feel good track, it’s well balanced and it comes across as a radio ready, summer inclusion for most playlists.
