Manchester United may once again be staring a crisis in the face after winning just one of their opening three games in the Premier League, but one thing that hasn’t wavered throughout these performances is the club’s stance against racism.
Unfortunately, there are some members of the fanbase who think it’s acceptable to send racial abuse to some United players after poor performances.
Luckily, the squad at Old Trafford are keen to stamp this out, and with social media being so influential nowadays some players are using that as a tool to spread their message.
Paul Pogba posted a defiant message against racism over the weekend, and now Nemanja Matic has supported him with a sign of solidarity.
Growing up in a war-torn Serbia, Matic will have seen his fair share of racism and xenophobia. The midfielder might well have thought he had escaped those types of issues when he began playing professional football, but unfortunately, these problems are continuously occurring in the beautiful game.
It’s great to see the 31-year-old speaking out against this terrible trend which has no place in football, and hopefully, the recent reaction to the abuse Pogba has received will be a step in the right direction in terms of permanently eradicating racism from the game.
