With the imminent sale of many of David Gilmour’s guitars, there’s currently plenty of press attention and coverage, particularly in the US. As you know, Christie’s New York is handling the upcoming sale of a significant chunk of David’s personal guitar collection. With more than 120 guitars, including his preferred Fender models of Broadcasters, Esquires, Telecasters and Stratocasters, the auction on Thursday (20th June) marks a rare opportunity for guitar aficionados, musicians and collectors to explore one of the world’s most comprehensive groupings of guitars that hooked a generation. Tomorrow sees the final opportunity to visit the exhibition of the guitars in New York. Entry is free, but advance reservations are essential. Below you can see a short piece on CBS television in the US, looking at the sale. A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY: For a more in-depth look at the sale, and the guitars in question, there’s a 35 minute Sky Arts television special being aired on 28th June at 7:30pm. Auction: David Gilmour Special should be a fascinating look at this somewhat unexpected sale. It will be available in the UK, and no doubt a number of places in Europe (depending on satellite reception), via Sky, Virgin Media, Talk Talk TV and Now TV. It may also be available post-broadcast on the sky.com website.
