Just announced is a further date on the US leg of David Gilmour’s upcoming tour – David and his band will be performing at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California, on Friday, October 25th (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/2024-david-gilmour-tour-zone/october-25th-intuit-dome-inglewood-los-angeles-c.html). This latest addition to David’s 2024 Luck and Strange live shows is this show in a venue that is undergoing the final stages of its construction, and it sounds a most interesting building. The architect, AECOM, notes that the “Intuit Dome will be naturally ventilated, fully electric through batteries and solar power with enough on-site energy storage to power a basketball game or concert, and have no net new greenhouse gas emissions.” To qualify for the pre-sale, which starts on June 12th at 10am local time, you need to sign up at DavidGilmour.com (https://www.davidgilmour.com/uspresale) beforehand to get the pre-sale code. There’s also a venue pre-sale which begins on June 13th at 10am local time. Tickets will then go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday, June 14th, through this link at Ticketmaster (https://www.ticketmaster.com/david-gilmour-tickets/artist/769001).

Richard Wright ‘Wet Dream’ reissue with Steven Wilson remix release details
Some great news has been announced this afternoon, following some online rumours and speculation – Richard Wrightâs debut solo album, Wet Dream, is to be reissued on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1978 – this time in deep blue transparent marbled vinyl. It will also be available on streaming platforms for the first time ever including a new Dolby Atmos mix, on CD and on blu-ray which includes a 5.1 mix and never before released personal images and videos from around this period of his life. To be released on July 28th – the date that would have been his 80th birthday – it will initially be made available on CD and all streaming platforms, with the vinyl and blu-ray editions of the record being released on September 29th. Remixed by Steven Wilson, this reissue comes with brand new artwork that was commissioned and art-directed by Gala and Jamie Wright, Richard’s children and managers of his estate. As per the original release, the bi-fold sleeve folds out to extend the image and features the same vibrant colour palette. This time, the unidentified person in bright red shorts is swimming within deep blue waters of the sea rather than a pool and the image expands out to reveal a boat slightly out of their reach, referencing the nautical theme of the record. The image was taken by Costas Spathis, a photographer living and working in Greece, which is where the album was written and the graphic design is by Carl Glover. The original artwork was designed by Storm Thorgerson and photographed by Audrey Powell for Hipgnosis and features in the vinyl booklet. Upon rediscovering this record, it becomes hugely apparent how much of Richard’s DNA runs through Pink Floyd. His distinct rhythm patterns, song structure and style of play exudes throughout, shining a light on his unique talent and influence on modern music. When originally released, post Pink Floyd’s Animals (1977) and shortly before 1979’s The Wall, Wet Dream was largely under-appreciated. Steven Wilson’s mix is designed to give new life to the record demonstrating Wright’s brilliance. Richard wrote and produced the whole album himself and it was one of only three albums he released outside of Pink Floyd, the others being Broken China, from 1996, and Identity, released in 1983 under the guise of Zee, a duet with Dave Harris from Fashion. The Blu-ray edition of Wet Dream includes the Dolby Atmos mIx, a 5.1 surround mix (DTS-HD Master Audio 96/24), the new stereo mix in Hi-Res Audio (96/24), and exclusive personal videos along with a photo gallery. It’s housed in a book format with collectable postcards and an 8-page booklet. Here’s a first taste of the album: ORDERING INFORMATION:

REMINDER: Saturday’s Record Store Day: Pink Floyd’s A Saucerful Of Secrets Mono 180g vinyl
Record Store Day 2019 (http://www.recordstoreday.com) Pink Floyd are re-releasing their second album, A Saucerful Of Secrets on vinyl. Remastered by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman from the original 1968 analogue mono mix, the release is the latest from Pink Floyd Records, which has supported Record Store Day (RSD) since the label’s launch in June 2016. The limited-edition Record Store Day release is on premium 12 180 gram black vinyl, with a black poly-lined inner sleeve, and a faithful reproduction of the original sleeve, including the Columbia logo, under which imprint (via EMI) the early Pink Floyd released in the UK. The Columbia logo has been used by kind permission of owners Sony Music Entertainment. Originally released in June 1968, A Saucerful Of Secrets represents a change in line-up and direction. Co-founder and original songwriter Syd Barrett contributed only one song to the album and his live appearances became more erratic. So unreliable were Syd’s live appearances that fellow founder members, Roger Waters, Rick Wright and Nick Mason decided to draft in David Gilmour, a friend of Syd’s, also from Cambridge. The album reflects this transition, containing a mixture of material, from the almost music hall Corporal Clegg through Rick’s dreamlike and melodic See Saw and Remember A Day to the title track – an 11-minute, four part instrumental excursion that both harked back to their UFO freakouts and looked forward to the longer, more anthemic instrumental sequences that were to become one of their signature elements. This mono edition of A Saucerful Of Secrets follows the popular RSD release of The Piper At The Gates of Dawn in mono in 2018, and is released via RSD participating stores (http://www.recordstoreday.com) on Saturday (13th April). A reminder that it will ONLY be these stores participating; the stores themselves can’t sell it online – the record will become available for customers coming through the door of the store from the morning of the 13th (and not before), in limited quantities – first come, first served, and only one copy per customer. After RSD, if copies remain, they may then put them for sale online (and of course, there’ll also be copies on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk) inevitably…) The full list of RSD releases for 2019 is available at www.recordstoreday.com (http://www.recordstoreday.com).

Want to be Comfortably Numb? Ignore painkillers, listen to Pink Floyd!
This month it has been reported that a well-known Dutch surgeon and his team have scientifically proven that music like Mozart and Pink Floyd have a very positive effect on the mind, and can even be used as a substitute for highly addictive painkillers like morphine and fentanyl with less chances of side effects. One of our Dutch visitors, Ronald van Soest, reveals more. Both are sometimes described as soothing. Nice music and morphine. The anaesthesiologist will give you the latter during and after a serious surgery. But the first – music – will soon also be provided. Dr Hans Jeekel, Professor of Surgery at Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, now knows exactly how much the morphine dose can be reduced, when patients are going under the knife with headphones over their ears. The dosage reduction is an average of 4.4 milligram during the 24 hours after the surgery, he wrote in the medical journal Annals of Surgery. The hospital was convinced after seeing the test results, and has already started to put it in practice. Apart from saving money it also prevents trouble in terms of accidents and addiction. Like America, the Netherlands are also facing a severe opium crisis, according to some worried doctors. The number of poisonings and overdoses with the much prescribed opiate oxycodone increased tenfold between 2008 and 2018, counting 400 accidents. It is therefore no surprise Health Affairs minister Bruno Bruins declared a desire to reduce the use of it; Dr Jeekel’s results will be good news for him. Dr Jeekel and his team compared the results of 55 studies with nearly 5000 patients. Mostly they weren’t completely free in their choice of music. But it had to be real music, no jungle sounds or the sound of sea waves were allowed. On the hospital’s website he explains that much is still unknown about the painkilling effects of music. Something with the brain… but it was made clear once more that Mozart and Pink Floyd in particular do have a positive effect on the stress response and defence system…
