Crystal Palace return for Aaron Wan-Bissaka edges closer as Eagles plot two moves

A trusted source claims Crystal Palace are planning to make an offer for former right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, now at Manchester United, as well as a Ligue 1 midfielder.

Wan-Bissaka came through Palace’s academy before gaining promotion to their senior squad in January 2018. He made 46 appearances for the Eagles, registering four assists, before United came in for him.

In July 2019, they paid Palace £50million to sign Wan-Bissaka. The deal made him United’s fifth most expensive signing in their history at the time.

The Englishman has been a regular in the starting eleven since then. He is usually solid defensively, but his lack of threat in the attacking third has seen him receive criticism.

Wan-Bissaka is often contrasted to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James. His compatriots regularly get assists with their dangerous crosses, although the same cannot be said for Wan-Bissaka.

Diogo Dalot is enjoying plenty of game time under interim manager Ralf Rangnick. Due to this, Wan-Bissaka is on 20 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Erik ten Hag will likely be watching the right-back battle ahead of his arrival this summer. And the Dutchman could go with Dalot, leaving Wan-Bissaka on the bench.

Pundit Danny Mills thinks the 24-year-old is now worth £20m, a big drop on his £50m fee. Mills also reckons the United move was ‘a little bit too much for him’.

Patrick Vieira’s Palace are ready to offer Wan-Bissaka a way out, however. BBC Sport claim the Eagles are considering a move for the United defender this summer.

He could be attracted by the possibility of returning to Selhurst Park, given Palace’s huge improvement under Vieira.

Wan-Bissaka takes home £90,000 each week, as per Spotrac, while his contract at Old Trafford runs out in June 2024.

Due to these high wages, Palace would only be able to afford a season-long loan deal to sign him.

The south London club know they need reinforcements on the right side of defence. Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne are both over 30, meaning a younger successor will soon need to be found.

BBC Sport reveal Palace will also aim to improve their midfield ranks in the summer. And Lens star Cheick Doucoure is one of the men on their radar.

He is 22 years old and is already a full Mali international. Doucoure could be taken to Selhurst Park as a replacement for Cheikhou Kouyate, whose contract expires on June 30.

Palace have recruited well during Vieira’s relatively short spell in charge. And signing these two stars would continue that trend, as well as demonstrating the club’s preference to bring in younger players.
