Beneath The Surface: Ena Fay

Hello, Hi, Hey! We are back by popular demand with another glorious Beneath The Surface feature. Today I am joined by the wonderful singer songwriter Ena Fay who has just released the tender, love inducing ballad ‘Because I Care’ accompanied with a live band music video. We chat all things music, new and upcoming! Check it out below 🙂

What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music?

It’s really hard for me to pin it down to one thing or person. All I know is I would love spending my free time as a little girl preparing for “shows” that I would perform either alone or with friends to my family. Here I would be singing and dancing along to music by Destiny’s Child and Alicia Keys. At the age of 10 approximately I started writing my own songs to perform, too.

How would you describe the music you are currently creating?

Piano based pop music. Usually some kind of love song.

What does your creative process look like?

It differs, the latest song idea was sparked by a song I was listening to…it was a topic that I had been confronted with a few days earlier and so it came to me easily to put my own words down on paper. It is an idea for a chorus and I recorded it on my iPhone with the melody so I can remember it easily til I have time to continue writing. In this case I actually also sent it to the piano player I have been working with lately as I am keen on trying out a songwriting collaboration. Usually I do the songwriting all by myself including coming up with the piano part.

Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)

Well, I did have a dream roughly two weeks ago about collaborating with Eminem – he was in a bad mood because his homies were getting on his nerves so he asked me if we could co-write! I, of course, was up for it in my dream and woke up in a very good mood in the morning. So I’ll go with that for now – dreams never lie hehe !

What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?

In this moment:

Life is not unfair because I love you, it just hurts a little bit because I care.

Life is not unfair because I miss you, it just hurts a little bit when you’re not there.

What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?

For me personally – go for a run!

What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/what are you currently working on?

We are in the middle of releasing my new EP ‘I Can Feel It, Too’! On Friday 26th March the third single came out ‘Because I Care’, with the official music video on Youtube. Hopefully hopefully hopefully we will be able to have a live concert in London with the full band when the whole EP comes out in May/June to celebrate that. In the meantime, I am planning on doing a live stream gig in April – this should be a charity gig with all donations going to the Music Venue Trust.
