Lucas Torreira could see his loan spell with Atletico Madrid cut short, according to reports in Europe.
The Uruguay midfielder moved to the Spanish capital on loan from Arsenal in the summer after a mixed couple of years in the Premier League.
Torreira made 89 appearances in total for Arsenal, but began to suffer in his second season with the club. He ultimately left on deadline day as Thomas Partey moved in the opposite direction.
He has previously discussed how joining Atletico was something of a dream come true. But his time there may be coming to a premature end.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Atleti boss Diego Simeone is not convinced by Torreira, who has made just five appearances in La Liga this season.
Therefore, they could send him back to Arsenal in January. That would then allow the Gunners to move him on elsewhere.
Torino, who wanted him in the summer, remain a potential suitor. Their coach Marco Giampaolo previously brought the best out of him at Sampdoria. However, the situation may change if Giampaolo loses his job.
The report from Tuttomercatoweb speculates that a number of other clubs could be interested, without naming them, in a cheap deal for Torreira.

Arteta responds to rumours
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is aware of the rumours surrounding Torreira, but refused to give away their plans
“We have been dealing with that situation, but again, when the market opens and we have the possibility to bring players in and get players out, whatever we have to do, we will discuss it.
“I cannot comment on that [cutting the loan deal short].”
The 24-year-old remains under contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2023.
