Ancelotti gives Mina injury update after toothless Everton display

Carlo Ancelotti gave an update an Yerry Mina’s injury status after Everton’s disappointing 0-0 draw at Brighton on Monday evening.

The point did little for Everton’s hopes of Champions League qualification, with Ancelotti’s side seven points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham with a game in hand. An injury-hit Toffees side also lost Mina to a muscle injury in the first half, adding to the loss of Dominic Calvert-Lewin before the game.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the clash at The Amex, Ancelotti said: “It was difficult to judge. I think we tried our best. The attitude was good.

“We didn’t play well from the back and we had difficulty reaching Richarlison and James Rodriguez. We missed some passes and were not able to have control of the game.

“On the bench we only had one player that had played a lot of games. But the players that played did a fantastic effort. We are not happy that we lost two points in the fight but now we have to try to recover players for the next game.

“[Yerry Mina] has a muscular problem so that’s two-three weeks usually. He will not be available for Friday.

“It is not a good moment. The injured players is this. We have difficulties in this moment but we need to move on.

“We are still in the fight. It is more difficult but we will not give up. It is a strange season with unpredictable results. We can see something in this fight.”

Home form could cost Everton

Meanwhile, Everton skipper Seamus Coleman admits if Everton miss out on European football it will be their home form they will come to rue and not draws at places like Brighton.

“It’s a point away from home. Obviously we wanted to win the game but Brighton are a very good side and they made it difficult for us,” the Republic of Ireland international added.

“Our disappointment comes from maybe not picking up three points against Palace (last Monday) as you could argue this is a good point away from home.

“We don’t want to be harping on about injuries – there are plenty of other teams doing that – it’s part of a Premier League season. Injuries happen and unfortunately we’ve lost a few players.

“This is no disrespect but against your Fulhams and Newcastles at home (games which Everton lost) that’s where our disappointment comes.

“It would be a massive disappointment (to miss out on Europe). We’ve been given opportunities by other results this season and we just needed to look after ourselves and we’d be in a different position.”
