Wright warns Arteta about tactical flaw sending Arsenal on dangerous path

Ian Wright feels Arsenal must learn to score more “chaotic” goals as their current system of finding the back of the net relies on “perfect” play.

Arsenal made decent chances in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester but could not get past Kasper Schmeichel.

Indeed the Gunners did take the lead early on at The Emirates, but the goal was later ruled out for offside.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has insisted on a policy of building from the back since his arrival at the club.

And while it will continue to produce results throughout the season, Wright feels the manager must adapt his tactics if his team are to score more regularly.

“It almost seems like the goals we score are perfect,” the pundit told Optus Sport ahead of Sunday’s clash. “It’s not like we do something then ‘bam’ we score a goal out of the blue.

“Every goal has to be in here, round to there, over to there, into (Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang, cross, beautiful. I’d like to see us scoring some rough goals, some chaotic play and then ‘bam’ a goal is scored.

“Because at the moment it feels like… you mention the Liverpool game. Liverpool just said ‘Right, if you’re going to do that, we’re going to continue to press you’.

Arsenal continue to try to play out and in the end it was our undoing. We’re trying to get it into Aubameyang and if that doesn’t work then it feels like we’re stuck.”

Ozil could provide creativity

Wright added that Arsenal should “ideally” have Mesut Ozil providing a strong dose of creativity. The German, though, did not earn a place in his side’s Premier League squad.

“It feels like we haven’t got enough creativity in the midfield,” the pundit added. “This is why I’m not putting a lot of pressure on Thomas Partey and I’m not saying ‘He is the one’.

“Ideally (it would be) Ozil to create and make those things happen in that midfield but he (Partey) will contribute something that can activate that right-hand side as well as the left.”

In the end, substitute Jamie Vardy scored another goal against Arsenal to seal Leicester’s win.

The Gunners return to action on Thursday with a Europa League tie against Dunkalk.
