West Bromwich Albion’s summer spending isn’t done yet and one emerging report is hugely encouraging…
What’s the word?
According to Wiwsport, the Baggies have entered the race to sign coveted Watford winger Ismaila Sarr this transfer window.
They claim that representatives from the Midlands club have met with the 22-year-old’s entourage but they face stiff competition from several of their top-flight rivals.
Premier League champions Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are all courted with interest in the Senegalese sensation.
The report also suggests that the Hornets have put up a £50m asking price but The Sun believe it’ll only take £30m, as per their claims last month.
10x better than Phillips
Sarr was one of the few bright sparks during Watford’s unfortunate relegation campaign – he provided six goals and six assists, which includes a brace against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds to condemn them to their first league defeat.
Having drawn comparisons to Sadio Mane over the course of his young career, it is the prolific Liverpool man that has lauded his international teammate publicly, once claiming “Watford have a really good player. I will need to help [Andy Robertson] more otherwise Ismaila Sarr will kill [him] because he is a good dribbler and very, very fast.”
That much is true as the young speed demon averaged 1.7 dribbles and 1.6 shots per game, and also was fouled 1.7x per match too, via WhoScored.
The praise doesn’t stop there either, former Hornets midfielder now Everton star Abdoulaye Doucoure believes Sarr is a “Champions League player” because of his “exceptional qualities,” adding: “He’s not just quick, he’s incredible at finishing, he can find space, keep the ball and I hope he’ll go very far.”
Albion’s options on the right-flank are particularly weak, there are two Championship-quality players in Matty Phillips and Kamil Grosicki.
The Scotsman’s last goal contribution for the club came in January this year whilst the Polish mid-season addition has only scored once since joining.
Sarr is a massive upgrade to the pair of them and for £30m, Luke Dowling would be making an incredible investment.
AND in other news, Baggies could be making one massive mistake with Filip Krovinovic’s loan deal…
