The spectacular winner netted by Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.
in the club’s meeting with Sevilla on Sunday has since given rise to an altogether head-turning comparison across social media…
Vini dazzles again
Los Blancos marked their return to La Liga action a short time ago.
After making it two wins from two on the back of the international break courtesy of a 3-0 downing of Sheriff in the Champions League in midweek, Carlo Ancelotti’s side tonight welcomed high-flying Sevilla to the Bernabeu.
The clash marked a key one amid a tense battle for the Spanish top-flight title, with Real aware ahead of kick-off that a defeat would have seen Sevilla leapfrog them to the division’s summit.
When all was said and done, however, the capital giants held their nerve, to eventually emerge on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline.
It was Sevilla who opened the scoring on the night courtesy of Rafa Mir’s header, but Karim Benzema levelled things up just beyond the half-hour mark, slotting home on the rebound after Eder Militao’s long-range pile-driver:

And the matchup, from here, remained deadlocked until deep into the final ten minutes of action in Madrid.
Step forth, Vinicius Jr…
After the Brazilian was picked out courtesy of a lofted ball to the left-hand side, upon initial viewing, there appeared to be little cause for concern from a Sevilla perspective.
Vinicius, however, made use of a sumptuous first touch to dart inside Lucas Ocampos, before driving towards the edge of the area, and unleashing a stunning effort beyond Bono into the roof of the Sevilla net, securing all three points for the hosts in the process:

‘I’m Ronaldo’
On the back of the action being brought to a close in the Spanish capital, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear that it is the name of match-winner Vinicius which has since stolen the headlines across the continent.
As alluded to above, though, on social media, it is a very particular comparison between the explosive young wide-man and one of Real Madrid’s all-time greats which has turned the heads of many.
The manner in which Vinicius cut inside from his berth on the left flank to pick out the far top corner on Sunday invokes immediate memories of perhaps the best ever at precisely that, one Cristiano Ronaldo.
In turn, upon the Brazilian pulling out Ronaldo’s trademark ‘calma’ celebration after finding the net, the Twitter-sphere was quickly set alight, with just some of the highlights showcased below:
That was Ronaldo-like from Vinicius

Honestly, that’s the type of goal you’d expect from Cristiano Ronaldo at his best when this left-wing was his. Joga Bonito is back, in the form of Vinicius Junior.

That wasn’t Vinicius Junior, that was 2012 Ronaldo.
