Arsenal’s under-21s hammered
Arsenal’s under-21 side were in action on Tuesday evening.
The Gunners faced a trip to AFC Wimbledon in an EFL Trophy clash.
And whilst the north Londoner’s highly-rated youth set-up may have fancied their chances of getting a result against the League One outfit, they were, in the end, completely dominated.
It took until the 67th minute for the deadlock to be broken by Wimbledon, but they then went on to cause Arsenal all sorts of issues.
Further goals from Paul Osew and Joe Pigott eventually saw the League One side emerge with a comfortable 3-0 win.
There were, barring the result, a few more noteworthy takeaways from the evening’s action though.
Martinelli & Sabila feature for Arsenal’s under-21s
Arsenal’s starting eleven on the day featured a few familiar faces with William Saliba once again in action and Gabriel Martinelli featuring for the first time this season:

Gabriel had a decent game, and as is shown in the highlights below, did come close to scoring with a glancing header.
Saliba, on the other hand, had something of a nightmare, with his rash challenge late on seeing him handed his marching orders and no doubt further denting his chances of becoming a regular feature for Arsenal’s senior side in the neat future.
Gabriel also took to social media post-match to thank Arsenal’s medical team:
it was a great feeling to get minutes tonight – huge thanks to the medical and physio teams @Arsenal for their fantastic work and to the fans for the amazing support during my long recovery ❤️ pic.twitter.com/DNVn7x2bIg
