Triple update sees forward exit ramp up as ruthless Liverpool prepare to cut ties

Liverpool forward Divock Origi looks certain to be playing his football away from Anfield next year after a triple update on his future.

Talk of Origi’s potential exit to AC Milan has dominated Liverpool transfer news in recent days. Indeed, the Belgian is out of contract in the summer and the Rossoneri are the current frontrunners to secure his signature.

Origi does have an option written into his contract that would trigger an automatic 12-month extension on Merseyside.

However, that clause is related to the number of appearances he makes, with varying reports suggesting it centres on Premier League outings only.

Origi is yet to start a single league game for the Reds this year. Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb recently claimed it is now impossible for the requirements in that clause to be met.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira then claimed Origi’s move to the San Siro is taking shape.

The reporter noted a four-year deal worth €3.5m is being readied. That roughly equates to a weekly wage of £56,500. That was then backed up by MilanNews in today’s Euro Paper Talk.

Now, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided a triple update on the state of play. All three revelations point towards a summer exit for Origi.

Origi and Liverpool both want exit

Romano tweeted the player himself is warming to the idea of leaving Anfield. In Romano’s words, Origi ‘wants to try a new challenge’. Key to that notion will no doubt be the fact regular gametime is increasingly difficult to find at Liverpool.

Secondly, Romano stated AC are ‘confident’ of wrapping up a deal ‘soon’. Further talks between Origi’s camp and AC are due to take place in the coming days.

The final update centred on Liverpool’s stance. Romano added the Reds have ‘no plans’ to offer Origi a new contract. With that stance taken, there appears to be no way Origi can remain at Anfield beyond the current campaign.

That outlook is somewhat surprising given the impact Origi has made when called upon.

The 26-year-old famously notched twice when Liverpool overturned a three-goal deficit against Barcelona in the Champions League. He went on to score in the final when Tottenham were sunk 2-0.

Origi also scored last-minute winners in the Merseyside derby and against Wolves in Premier League encounters.

However, with Diogo Jota and more recently Luis Diaz added to the ranks, Liverpool are now prepared to axe Origi.
