Have You Got It Yet? The Story of Syd Barrett & Pink Floyd – DVD/Blu-ray/Digital

Just announced: the DVD and Blu-ray, and digital release, of Have You Got It Yet? The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd is coming on July 19th, 2024. The critically acclaimed – and fan acclaimed – documentary film Have You Got It Yet? is a compelling dive
into the life and genius of Syd. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Roddy Bogawa and the late, acclaimed album cover designer Storm Thorgerson, the feature length documentary drew praise for its candid glimpse into the prismatic character and artistry of Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett. Released in cinemas worldwide in Summer 2023, Have You Got It Yet? achieved a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a successful theatrical run with many sold-out screenings. Intimate interviews with band members David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Roger Waters uncover Barrett’s ongoing impact on the group. Going a step further, the film also includes an interview with Syd’s sister, Rosemary Breen. Narrated by actor Jason Isaacs, the film also features original band managers Peter Jenner and Andrew King, as well as The Who’s Pete Townshend and Blur’s Graham Coxon. In addition to the full-length film, the joint DVD and Blu-ray set includes a plethora of bonus features. Two poignant live performances of Arnold Layne are highlighted – the first features David Gilmour David Bowie (originally released in Gilmour’s Remember That Night Live At The Royal Albert Hall, 2007). The second is a performance from 2007’s The Madcap’s Last Laugh – a tribute concert held at London’s Barbican for Syd Barrett featuring Gilmour, Mason, and Richard Wright in their
final performance as Pink Floyd. Additionally, the DVD and Blu-ray includes an interview with Bogawa and director producer commentary of the film with Bogawa, Rupert Truman, and Julius Beltrame. Further exploring his creative works, the set features discussions surrounding Barrett’s paintings, and spoken word performances of Barrett’s lyrics by comedian Noel Fielding (Dark Globe), poet Rob Fitterman (Rats) and actor Gerard Bell (Lucifer Sam). The package, designed by StormStudios, is completed with an exclusive Have You Got It Yet? poster, which was also designed by the studio. Ordering details will follow here shortly – we’ll update this story accordingly. The documentary is a fascinating and moving look at Barrett and we heartily recommend it. It’s great news that it is finally getting a physical/digital release, enabling those who are yet to see it, the opportunity.

David Gilmour – a very happy birthday to you!

Our very best wishes, and many happy returns, to David Gilmour who is celebrating his birthday today (March 6th)! Born and raised in Cambridge, David became involved with various bands in the area, principally Jokers Wild who were a popular draw when they played, before joining Pink Floyd in 1968. More recent years have seen David concentrating on his solo career, and helping out chums on their musical projects on an ad hoc basis. In 2019, some 120+ of David’s guitars were auctioned, raising $21.5 million (including some record-breaking amounts for individual instruments) which went to the environmental charity ClientEarth (https://clientearth.org). He also appeared as a guest performer at the Richard Thompson 70th Birthday Concert (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/david-gilmour-guest-appearance-at-richard-thompson-70th-birthday-co.html), playing Dimming Of The Day and Fat Old Sun, and joining the encore. In 2020, on February 25th, shortly before all activity stopped around the world due to Coronavirus, David joined the stellar bill for the Mick Fleetwood Friends Celebrate The Music of Peter Green and The Early Years of Fleetwood Mac (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/mick-fleetwood-friends-concert-box-set-available-to-orde.html) concert at London’s Palladium, which has been released as a 4LP, 2CD, Blu-ray and book box set (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/mick-fleetwood-friends-concert-box-set-available-to-orde.html). The concert was in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity (https://teenagecancertrust.org). More recently, of course, there have been numerous pictures of David posted by his wife, Polly, showing him being rather active in recording studios – one reason is the upcoming Mark Knopfler charity single bringing over 60 musicians – particularly guitarists – together for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/mark-knopfler-gathers-60-guitar-legends-including-david-gilmour-for-charity-s.html). However, there looks to have been plenty of activity unrelated to this project, giving indications that new music from David may be on the cards… It just remains for us to wish David a very happy day! The Dark Side Of The Moon 50th Anniversary breakout sets: CD, LP, Blu-ray

Just announced is the release – on October 13th – of breakout sets from Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon (TDSOTM) 50th Anniversary box set. Coming on that date, from Warner Music (Sony Music outside Europe) are the hoped for stand-alone releases of the newly remastered TDSOTM on CD, LP and Blu-ray. First released as part of the box set which appeared in March, this will be the first time that the new remaster of the classic album will be available on its own. The Blu-ray contains the Dolby Atmos and a 5.1 Surround mix as well as the remastered Stereo version. The package comes with commemorative postcards, stickers and a 24-page booklet. The 50th Anniversary continues to be celebrated as Pink Floyd invited a new generation of animators to enter a competition to create animated music videos for any of the 10 songs on the album, and a number of entries have been lodged already. Pink Floyd has a rich history of collaborating with animators (Ian Emes, Gerald Scarfe, etc.), and in some cases the visuals that accompany the songs have become synonymous with the music itself. Animators can enter up to 10 videos, one per song on the album. A winner will be selected from a panel of experts which will include Nick Mason and Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell (Pink Floyd’s creative consultant). The deadline for submissions is November 30th 2023. To enter and for more information go to pinkfloyd.com/competition (https://www.pinkfloyd.com/competition/). A live streamed Q&A has also been announced, featuring Powell in conversation with animators who have created some videos in promotion for the competition and who will discuss their work and the creative process. The event will take place on September 6th at 5pm UK time on YouTube, via Pink Floyd’s official channel there. ORDERING INFORMATION:

Weather stops Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets gig in Vicenza, Italy

Last night, show four of the 2023 Echoes Tour in Europe saw Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets back in Italy, which like much of the central band of Europe has been suffering with extreme weather, with temperatures breaking records in many places. As you’ll see from the below, sadly a bad storm came in shortly before the band were due on stage in the Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza, forcing organisers to evacuate the city square where the concert was to be held, for everyone’s safety.
