David Gilmour: Dark and Velvet Nights video, and box set info

The third single from David Gilmour’s upcoming album, Luck and Strange, has now been released and you can view the video for Dark and Velvet Nights below. There’s also been a change to the deluxe box set offerings, with a very limited (and possibly already sold out) edition of the CD/Blu-ray and LP/Blu-ray deluxe sets coming with a print, containing one of Anton Corbijn’s great portraits of David. The non-print edition of the deluxe sets has seen a price reduction, which if you have pre-ordered through Amazon, should be reflected in the final amount you are charged when the album is released. Nick Mason “Inside Out” signed copies – updated order form

For the last TWENTY YEARS (!) one of the most popular items that have been promoted through Brain Damage is Nick Mason’s excellent book, Inside Out: A Personal History Of Pink Floyd signed with your choice of dedication, by Nick himself. Even though the offer has been running for such a long time, we’ve had confirmation (with an updated order form to reflect the edition of the book that his office has available) that Nick is still more than happy to take care of this for you! New book: Everything Under the Sun: The Complete Guide to Pink Floyd

To be published at the end of next month, on August 29th 2024, is a new book, written by Mike Cormack, from The History Press publishers. Everything Under the Sun: The Complete Guide to Pink Floyd promises a comprehensive look at the band. The publishers told us that “Everything Under the Sun will be a high-level, fully sourced and footnoted analysis of the music of Pink Floyd (akin to Revolution in the Head by Ian MacDonald about The Beatles), and the first serious survey of the group’s work and achievements. As such, it will also be a cultural history of the UK, seen through the prism of the band”. They continued: “While there is a plethora of books about Pink Floyd and by Pink Floyd former members, none are truly comprehensive or do what this book seeks to do. Some give bald introductions to the songs with analysis, others give stories and anecdotes, and potted histories. But Everything Under the Sun will be the definitive book. In addition to a song-by-song analysis, it will include exclusive band interviews, a full chronology and gig guide, and a full bootleg guide. It will be the go-to book for any Pink Floyd fan”. New issue of Prog Magazine with large David Gilmour features and Nick Mason’s Saucers reviewed

Prog gave us the following rundown of what the issue offers: “Nine years after David Gilmour released his last solo album he is about to release Luck And Strange. That evocative guitar tone, those emotive solos, that distinct voice – all those components that make up a great Gilmour album are all in place. Pink Floyd inspired art: Two Lost Souls

Our thanks to the enigmatically named That Lady, who has been in touch with her contribution to our gallery of Floyd inspired artworks. She told us: “I am still a hard-core fan and still return to Pink Floyd for inspiration! This piece was born after witnessing the full 2024 eclipse.” The following is titled, appropriately, Two Lost Souls, and for those who need a hint as to the Floyd tie-up, the song Wish You Were Here has the lyric about the lost souls swimming in a fish bowl…the eclipse itself standing in for the bowl. It’s a lovely image, and we thank her for allowing us to share it with the Floyd community worldwide!

It opens at La Rural in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 10th, 2024 for a limited run. After the success of the exhibition stagings in London, Madrid, Dortmund, Los Angeles, Montreal and Toronto, Buenos Aires becomes the seventh location for the event. Landing in South America for the first time, the exhibition will open on September 10th at the Pabellón Frers of La Rural Fairgrounds. This central exhibition space is the perfect venue for the immersive experiential journey through Pink Floyd’s world, from high-tech audio visual events, objects, and surreal landscapes that evolve throughout the exhibition. Roger Waters in Palestine concert webcast tonight

This evening, from 6:30pm BST (UK time), a Stand Up For Palestine concert takes place, with Yusuf (Cat Stevens) Islam, rapper Lowkey, and Roger Waters, amongst those taking part. It is being webcast from a secret location, which is a small church in London. The details for the limited edition deluxe formats for David Gilmour’s Luck and Strange album, which is released on September 6th 2024, have been revealed and will include bonus tracks and a very special hardback book by Thames & Hudson featuring exclusive photographs taken by Polly Samson during the recording of the album. The deluxe editions will be limited to one run only. Up to now, there’s just been a blurry hint at the editions over at David’s official store, but now full details have been revealed. The deluxe editions come in two versions: vinyl or CD, depending on which format you prefer for the standard audio elements. Second single – Between Two Points – released from David Gilmour’s Luck and Strange

Released today is the second single from David Gilmour’s forthcoming album, Luck And Strange, which is released on September 6th – full details here (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/david-gilmour-luck-and-strange-new-album-announced.html). The song is Between Two Points, which is a cover of a track by the Montgolfier Brothers from their 1999 debut album Seventeen Stars, and features David’s daughter Romany on vocals and harp. David: “I’ve had that song on my playlist since it was released. More recently I mentioned it to one or two people: I assumed that it had been a hit, but no one knew it. I asked Romany to give it a go”. During the live streams that David and family, as the Von Trappeds, performed to a global audience during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, Romany had sung and played the harp, and David found that their voices mixed in a way that only a family member could. Around that time, David and Romany collaborated on the song Yes, I Have Ghosts, which appears on the CD Blu-Ray versions of Luck and Strange. “I realised that Romany has exactly the right sort of vulnerability and youth for the song. In fact, she was halfway through an essay with a train to catch when we asked her: “OK, I’ll sing it once, put the mic on” and that, said David, is 90 percent of the finished vocal. Mark Tranmer of The Montgolfier Brothers is greatly enamoured with this new version. “David and Romany’s version of our song is a great arrangement and production. Like all the best covers, it diverges from the original but keeps the spirit. Romany’s vocal phrasing of Roger Quigley’s words and the harp playing are both truly beautiful. David Gilmour’s distinctive guitar adds a whole new dimension. I still find it incredible that David and Polly chose to cover our song from all the songs out there.” The video for Between Two Points was shot on location in London and Manchester, with David on guitars and featuring Romany Gilmour on vocals and harp. Gavin Elder who directed the clip said: “Romany performs this song with an extraordinary level of fragility, vulnerability and understated control.
