Well, it’s that time of year when would like to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for your support and kindness – the site is done purely for you, and as the current version of the site alone approaches 100 million visitors (with the previous version of the site reaching an additional 21 million visitor), we look forward to continuing to bring you news and information from the Floydian world! Whatever your plans for Christmas, the Holidays, and the New Year we hope you have a peaceful, happy and healthy time, and here’s to 2024! Roger Waters has finished tour his striking This Is Not A Drill, for now at least, and as he mentioned at the Palladium in October, he has written his memoirs. Will we see those next year – and will he release any new material, a live recording from the TINAD tour, or even perform more shows? As we now know, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets head out on the road again after such a superb 2022/2023 tour, with six dates just announced for July 2024, in Italy. Hopefully there will be some gigs elsewhere too! As for David Gilmour, there’s just been a number of pictures posted of him in a studio, which bodes well for the potential of something from him. And, as we know from previous years, there’s also often the odd surprise here and there as well, so who knows – it could be another busy year! Talking of Nick Mason – he is hosting another open weekend at his home in Corsham, Wiltshire, to raise vital funds for The Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust and Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Being held on Saturday 8th June & Sunday 9th June, the day offers a fabulous day out for the whole family: gardens to meander through, Nick’s outstanding classic and super cars on show, farm animals to visit, live music (NOT Nick playing though!), children’s entertainment, face painting, a bouncy castle plus more, a fantastic array of stalls to browse and shop – such as plant stalls, clothing, homeware, local food and wine products, a selection of food stalls from BBQ to Smoked Salmon. Tea, coffee and cakes are available throughout the day. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leads. Tickets for this can be bought through this link (https://events.liveit.io/the-wiltshire-bobby-van-trust/middlewick-house-open-garden-2024/), now. They tend to sell out so we urge you to buy them soon to avoid disappointment. For those near the Leicester area of England, the UK’s National Space Centre (which is located in the city) is hosting the fulldome planetarium show of The Dark Side Of The Moon, on January 20th, 2024. With full 360 degree visuals, and the latest audio remastering being used, it promises to be a great evening. Tickets for the two performances that evening (7pm and 8:30pm) can be bought through this direct link (https://www.spacecentre.co.uk/whats-on/pink-floyds-the-dark-side-of-the-moon-january-2024/) which also gives more information about the event, along with pictures of how it might look. Finally, there’s an item interest which should help you tick away the moments that make up what may otherwise be dull days over the holiday period! It does rely on you having access to Netflix though. The through this link (https://www.netflix.com/browse?jbv=81721595).

Roger Waters concludes his 2022/2023 tour
Well, that’s it – for now, at least. Roger Waters has now completed his 2022/2023 This Is Not A Drill tour, with his show in Quito, Ecuador, with the South American dates concluding the 56 shows this year, which joined the 43 last year. The majority of the dates were performed “in the round”, which Roger and his band in the centre of auditoriums, with Roger occasionally visiting the different “arms” of the stage structure during the show. For the final, stadium shows, a more conventional staging was employed due to the nature of the venues. To answer those who HAVEN’T yet emailed us to ask, there aren’t any dates currently confirmed for 2024, or any other confirmed activity for Roger. There has been talk about him recording another album, and for those who went to, or heard about, the London Palladium shows in October (which presented his Redux version of The Dark Side Of The Moon) he has been writing his memoirs. He read out three sections on the first night, covering life in Cambridge, Syd Barrett, and a friendly duck… There are no details of when the book will appear but obviously we will let you know once we have details. We’re also waiting to hear if there will be a live album/video from the tour released at some point. Again, once we have the confirmed information, we’ll let you know. If any of you went to ANY of the shows over the last two years, and would like to share your views on them, please get in touch. We’d love to include your contributions!

Roger Waters: The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux – London Palladium shows
Last night saw the second of two nights of the London live premiere of Roger Waters’ The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux. We purposefully didn’t reveal much about the first night, when we reported on it yesterday, focusing on things that would be of benefit to those attending (and indeed had praise from a few people for the information and tips given). This was so we didn’t spoil any surprises or set any expectations. The restrictions imposed on cameras, phones and other tech, secured in pouches that could only be opened by staff at the exit of the venue, made for a nicer experience as an audience member, without phones/iPads or cameras constantly in the eye line. Various parts of the media have given these two shows fairly hefty coverage, and certainly the first half of the show, and the heavy overrunning to the scheduled end time, resulted in quite a bit of criticism, which Roger acknowledged last night to make adjustments to proceedings. The show started with Roger reading from a sheaf of notes, covering various topics including freedom of speech and Julian Assange, but noted that he’d promised not to be too political. Instead, he said he’d read from his forthcoming book, “I’ll See You On The Dark Side Of The Moon: Memoirs Of A Lanky Prick”. The first night had Roger relate – sat at a table, reading from a laptop – three excerpts: one with heavy detail on Cambridge street names and directions, another talking about his time with Syd, who was coming up with songs, and finally one referencing the pictures of Roger with a duck on his social media, with a lengthy piece about his time with Donald, a bird brought in by one of his cats. These took up some time, and certain members of the audience got very restless and heckled – much to Roger’s annoyance. The second night saw Roger cut the first two, but despite opening by saying he wasn’t going to read any at all, still proceeded with the story of the duck called Donald. Once done, he welcomed the musicians – 14 strong – to the stage to perform an excellent, extended version of The Bar, followed by a rendition of Mother. The first night then had an intermission, before a 20 minute film (you can see this in full below) appeared on the gauze screens which unspooled from the top of the stage. It shows Roger running through each track on the album, talking about the songs origins and also why he has revisited the album, some 50 years on. It was an interesting look at his motives for the Redux version, and set the scene perfectly for the band to come on as bird song filled the auditorium, to start the live performance of the album in full. For some reason though, last night the film was shown BEFORE the intermission, which did seem to lose the atmosphere and build up the film afforded. The performance of The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux on both nights was extremely effective, with the album working very well live. Roger had put together a great band, many of which had appeared on the album itself. There was a six piece string section headed by Gabe Noel, a few members of Roger’s current “Drill” touring band (Jon Carin, Jonathan Wilson, Gus Seyffert, Robert Walter and Joey Waronker), along with Johnny Shepherd (organ, piano, and vocals), Via Mardot on the theremin, and Azniv Korkejian on vocals. It was Johnny and Azniv’s vocals on The Bar which really elevated that song in the first half. Visually, there was a large triangular lighting rig which hung forward, with the top looming over the front of the audience. At various points the gauze screens were down, with back projection of the new lyrics artistically beamed onto them. Roger stood in front of the screens, with the band behind, resplendent in his pink suit jacket (over a black t-shirt and black jeans). For those who’ve asked, he didn’t play any instruments during the show. There was no encore, just a curtain call which was met by a standing ovation both nights. The audience seemed a lot more amenable on the second night, without the hefty heckling heard on the first night. This seemed to lift Roger’s mood too. Two unique (we presume) nights, and whilst advertising them in a different way (making it clear that some of the evening would include the readings) might have managed expectations and helped calm some of the more vocal and angry members of the audience, the music performed ensured most went away very happy to have attended the shows! It is unlikely that the show will appear elsewhere but if that happens, we’ll let you know…

The Dark Side Of The Moon 50th Anniversary breakout sets: CD, LP, Blu-ray
Just announced is the release – on October 13th – of breakout sets from Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon (TDSOTM) 50th Anniversary box set. Coming on that date, from Warner Music (Sony Music outside Europe) are the hoped for stand-alone releases of the newly remastered TDSOTM on CD, LP and Blu-ray. First released as part of the box set which appeared in March, this will be the first time that the new remaster of the classic album will be available on its own. The Blu-ray contains the Dolby Atmos and a 5.1 Surround mix as well as the remastered Stereo version. The package comes with commemorative postcards, stickers and a 24-page booklet. The 50th Anniversary continues to be celebrated as Pink Floyd invited a new generation of animators to enter a competition to create animated music videos for any of the 10 songs on the album, and a number of entries have been lodged already. Pink Floyd has a rich history of collaborating with animators (Ian Emes, Gerald Scarfe, etc.), and in some cases the visuals that accompany the songs have become synonymous with the music itself. Animators can enter up to 10 videos, one per song on the album. A winner will be selected from a panel of experts which will include Nick Mason and Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell (Pink Floyd’s creative consultant). The deadline for submissions is November 30th 2023. To enter and for more information go to pinkfloyd.com/competition (https://www.pinkfloyd.com/competition/). A live streamed Q&A has also been announced, featuring Powell in conversation with animators who have created some videos in promotion for the competition and who will discuss their work and the creative process. The event will take place on September 6th at 5pm UK time on YouTube, via Pink Floyd’s official channel there. ORDERING INFORMATION:

Roger Waters shares Time from Dark Side Redux album
The second track from the upcoming Redux version of The Dark Side Of The Moon, that Roger Waters is releasing on October 6th (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/roger-waters-the-dark-side-of-the-moon-redux-album-annou.html), has been released today to streaming services. Time has now been added to Money as the second full publicly available track from this new version of the Pink Floyd classic. Together they give a decent clue as to how the album should sound – a fairly stripped back, almost introspective and certainly atmospheric take, which is quite different from the original. The album will be available on digital platforms, as well as CD, and as mentioned above, the range of double vinyl editions, which includes standard black (links below), a selected-store-only blue vinyl (please check with your local record store for this, or order below through HMV.com (https://hmv.com/store/music/vinyl/dark-side-of-the-moon)), an Amazon exclusive violet vinyl (links below), a white vinyl which is a German exclusive through jpc.de (https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/roger-waters-dark-side-of-the-moon-redux/hnum/11550158), a yellow through FNAC in France (https://www.fnac.com/a18380149/Roger-Waters-The-Dark-Side-Of-The-Moon-Redux-Exclusivite-Fnac-Vinyle-Jaune-Vinyle-album), a red (limited to 500 copies) from Newbury Comics in the US (https://www.newburycomics.com/collections/pre-orders/products/roger_waters-the_dark_side_of_the_moon_redux_exclusive_2lp?variant=42326528295092), and Roger’s official store (https://rogerwaters.tmstor.es) has an exclusive transparent orange vinyl edition, bundles with exclusive numbered prints and standard CD and vinyl editions, and even a gold cassette! Interestingly, the fourth side of the vinyl includes “an original composition”, which isn’t on the CD or cassette editions (we don’t yet know about the digital offerings). The Times newspaper noted that “a new 13-minute original ambient bonus track inspired by the re-recording will feature on the ten-track album, which will be released on the record label Cooking Vinyl on October 6 and supported by a series of live shows.” The live shows, being held at the London Palladium on October 8th and 9th, are sold out, although it is worth checking from time to time in case they have production tickets released.
